anyone knows how to speed up the recovery? pain pain
sprained it yesterday afternoon, but continued my game of squash, cos wassnt that pain.
yesterday night come home, then realise quite bad, so i elevated my ankle when i slept by putting bolster under my leg. now its even more swollen!

faster way to recover: just don't move around and task your ankle to bear the weight. If you must exercise, you can do swimming.

Within few days to a week, the pain will gone. But it's still very fragile. Better wait for another 6-8 weeks before start jogging with it.

Anyway your case is not bad at all. If it really bad, you won't be able to stand on your feet :D

when i stand, im leaning most of my weight on my left leg. (i sprained right ankle) and im walking slower than old aunties with walking stick :(

go chinese sin seh. I badly sprained my ankle once and waited 1.5 weeks until bei tahan and went to see the sin seh...

The first look on my ankle, the sin seh scolded me: WHY WAIT SO LONG?? SAVE MONEY ARH??:embrass:

Assess circulation (see if your toe-nails return to their pinkish colour after you pinch and release them) on the affected foot. Assess function, can you at least move the ankle in all the normal planes?

R : Rest

I : Ice

C : Compression

E : Elevation

If it still hurts and you cannot bear weight on it after a couple of days, please visit your nearest physician. Let them assess ligaments and run a check on it. If X-Ray is warranted, then please do it.

Bernard

I have sprained my ankle a few times before. All causes during basketball game. My worst sprain took 6 months to recover fully. If you can endure pain and want fast recover, you should visit chinese sin seh for massage. Initially it will get worst (more swollen) for first few days. You need to constantly do own massage or warm up. Else, rest more and avoid intensive exercise like jogging, wait for self recover but will take longer time.

If you feel very painful, follow Bernard's post. Go for X-ray checkup.

ICE. Nomatter what you do, do not put any heat on it for a next day or two. You must get the swelling under control before anything else.

REST, don't put weight on it, eventhough you feel you can. Get yourself a pair of crutches if you need to get around.

If you need pain killer, something like Advil which is good for inflamation is very effective.

thx guys for all the responses!
my mum advice me to go sinseh, but i dunno what they will do to my leg lol. scared la, never go sinseh b4. what will sinseh do?
i cant really tell the diff after i've pinch my toenails lol. but i can move my foot slowly in some directions. its a bit uncomfortable. when i put weight on that ankle when standing up, it will be painful.

i dun know...mayb x-ray 1st if nothing serious than go for massage

Yup, i think .... go to accupuncture is good advice. I sprained don't know how many times liao..... so scary :)

Go to sin seh they just put and apply the herb and wrap it for 3 days.

At least go TCM, they will do some massage (depends on condition), then do accupuncture. To me it do help much. And you must rest your ankle temporary from any exercise.....Don't like me hoh, itchy itchy ...play again before total recovery, then kenna again, jiak lat.:)

Rest at least 1.5 month ......

hi bro, hope your ankle is better. if you are in so much pain as to require crutches you may have a more severe sprain. Suggest you follow Bernard's advice to get an x-ray/checkup with a sports/orthopaedic doctor. Otherwise if you feel like visiting a sinseh, be careful if he suggests "tui nah" or any type of similar physical manipulation as i've seen people who have sprains/fractures worsened by this treatment especially if not performed properly. acupuncture/ointments should be ok.

take care

For sprain, the best bet is to see a Chinese Physician.

I know of a good old Sin Seh in Bukit Gombak. PM me if you need his contact. (no commission for me though :bsmilie: :bsmilie: :bsmilie: )

Cheers
