Hi am thinking of buying a GPS device, can I use the handheld type for driving as well? Will it be fast enough? Where's a good place to get one? Sorry quite a noob at this GPS thingy

For Garmin GPS you can contact the local dealer for it.

NaviCom Technology Pte Ltd
200 Jalan Sultan #10-03
Textile Centre
Singapore 199018
Phone: 65 6296 8238
Fax: 65 6295 0996

Hand held can use for driving but not recommended because you will not be able to see the the screen clearly as it is usually smaller than vehicle type and you need to place it at a location with much clear view of the sky in order for the antenna to get many good satelite signals.

for garmin, according to my fren who is crazy over geo-caching, its cheaper to order from ebay and ship it back fm USA via vpost. dats wat he did.

for driving, the latest in-thing for GPS device is TiBo (or something like dat). been seeing a lot of its ads in car mags.

yes u can. think there are some folks here who sells singapore maps dat can be downloaded into garmin GPS systems. u have to google to dig up those local geo-caching sites. ;)

i think EG also sells singapore maps. just dat i dunno if they can be uploaded onto garmin.

You'll need a bigger display for driving.

Go to this website for more information about Singapore and Malaysia GPS enthusiast. There is a free Malsing map(Malaysian and Singapore) map for Garmin.

You can download the Singapore map from Jerome Wee website for Garmin GPS receiver. I would suggest donating some money to get his more detailed map of Singapore including HDB block numbers.

You'll need the Garmin mapsource software to upload the maps to Garmin GPS.

HTH.
