Hi bros

This is my first try on shooting the moon pls give me some advise on improving

Pic is unedited but cropped, takiing using the cheap Tamaron 70-300 with a 2x TC and tripod:)

MOON_resize.jpg

It seems out of focus and underexposed. It doesn't seem captivating and would have done better with a full moon as well as some clouds to add to the picture.

Thanks for the frank comments i see that too but the lens with a TC don't seem to focus well

points noted;)

cheers!

2 problems for me.

Not sharp.

Annotation - everybody knows it is THE MOON. so no need to add legs when you draw the snake. :)

This is not a artistic moon shot, with that amount of zoom you wouldnt see any clouds
If it were cloudy, you wouldnt get a sharp shot of the moon

The full moons are the worst for this kind of photography, as they dont give much detail

There are two kinds of detail
1 shadow detail
2 surface detail

To preserve shadow detail you have to underexpose a bit
Most people concentrate on surface detail, ie the craters & end up blowing away all the subtle shadaow details

Base your comments on facts & not fantasy

Did you use a tripod for the shot, there seems to be a bit of blur, use a timer
I think the exposure is just about right, only with a sharp focus will the details come out
Did you focus & meter manually, would highly reccomend both these

Thanks Cser brothers for all your C&Cs

I am a very newbie in this section and am learning everyday i take all comments with a pinch of salt:bsmilie:

Thanks! bro drama ;) i am begining to appreciate zooming in the night skyies but due to restrain of funds will have to do it one step at a time your comments were very encouraging;)

yes , a tripod was used the blurring is due to a cheap standard zoom lens the Tamaron70-300 focusing was done manually so is metering and was snapping using a remote cord the cam body is new just collected yesterday so was trying out all it's feature so pls forgive my poor pics:)

Cheers
kent:)

Good attempt :D It is not sharp and details of the moon are not there... you just got to keep trying. What is the aperture and shutter speed used here?
