Have you ever had a CF card failed on you?

well CF/SD cards are pretty durable if u r talking abt environmental hazards

corruption of data usually is human error if I am not wrong. some cams have no protection if the CF door suddenly opens or battery runs out when deleting images. that causes file corruption. (might also happen if u forcefully remove the CF card while writing/deleting files from the CF card)

what brand? cheaper brands sometimes have problem :(

My first Lexar 2gb 80X CF card died on me only after using it 3-4 times. Luckily there's the lifetime 1-1 warranty. The replacement has been perfect though.

My 1GB just went kaput after 15 months. Took with it all my fireworks photos last night :bheart:

Card can't even be detected.

May I know where did you have it replaced? I bought mine from eastgear. Do I go back to them or to Convergent (IRRC they distribute Lexar cards?)

i had 2 x 1GB lexar CF card failed on me before... luckily managed to retrieve the pics inside... lost about 5-10% of the files due to file corruption.

recently changed to using sandisk 2GB & 4GB. so far so good... *touch wood*

Bring them back to Convergent for 1-1 exchange. They are now at Albert Complex, opposite SLS.

so far, nope. used CF card since 2004, Sandisk brand.

but i believe man-made things can fail anytime. so there is nothing to be complacent aboutl.

yes..

my Lexar 512mb SD card...

but i managed to get most back...

I can't even get it to be detected using a card reader.... :(

Anyhow.... are Lexar CF still being sold around? Don't see them around during the last 2 or 3 PC Fairs.

Luckily, never happened before. I shoot many events and thousands of pictures and my CF card is more than 2 years old already. I expect something bad to happen soon, so i bought a spare, just in case. :)

If you run Image Rescue, it might detect the card.

Nothing to loose.

wow u must really work your cards hard .. do u take them in and out of the camera often?
I dun and so far my cards are all doing fine.. *touchwood and i hope they stay fine..
but your experience is putting me off buying cards 2nd hand..

Personally, I never had a CF die on me. I have 2 that are > 3 years. But then again I am not a strong user. Quite surprised at the bad experiences people had with CF. Wonder if there are similar occurences with the SD format... this I am now using quite extensively.

Have you ever had a CF card failed on you? Or after the shooting session found that it was impossible to retrieve the files or the files were corrupted?

Sion

Yes it can happen. In one case lucky not a paid job, while reviewing a CHK error was shown on camera and it hung. Rebooted the camera, guess what 2 files went missing ; the one I was looking at and another 2 or 3 files back from the last one. San Disk Ultra II.

Maybe it time to retire current cards and get in new ones - these are around 2 years old and have been worked hard my guess is that they could have gone around 20,000 frames.
