Hi,

I was on holiday in Shanghai recently when I chanced upon this branch of maple leaves.

This is one of my first attempts at taking macro and it was done with a compact camera - an Olympus Mju 600. Are there any suggestions as to how I may improve such shots in the future? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

IMO, macro shots should be much closer than this and sharper than this. Perhaps you can try again at a closer range. Also, your pic looks slanted and makes viewer want to fall of the chair

lighting is flat...

Wow! his image that powerful meh? I didn't feel like falling off the chair. ;)

Dont you think the slanted horizon makes you want to tilt your head...

shifting slightly to the left so that the leaves intersect with the left vertical ling on the Rule of Thirds...will help in composition,
btw this is a close up shot, macro should be things taken at life-size or bigger, eg pics of bugs being bigger than they really are.

Happy shooting ^^

Canon EOS 30D, 17-40mm f4 L USM, 70-200mm f4 L IS USM, 50mm f1.4

Looking at his equipment, it is no wonder why. =D

And honestly,

I don't see a HORIZON.
