:) going there^^ on tuesday..any past expiriences??? :D

Nice beaches in Yalongwan, Sanya in the south. They have quite a lot of resort developments there, eg Bo'ao near the mouth of Wanquan River. Haikou is a typical Chinese city, the other towns are more laid-back. Outside of the cities are mainly tropical jungles and plantations.

Try the food:
文昌 Chicken, 山东 Mutton, 家记 Duck, 和乐 Seafood.

Typical Hainan dishes.

五指山, 红椰林, 鹿回头 and 天涯海角 are also nice place to visits.

when there once on tour package...
the place din really appeal to me.

maybe just becareful of who you are shooting...
some people might just stretch out their hands asking for $$$ after you shoot them.
But that usually happens in tourist visiting places.

i remembered that i just take out my digi cam intending to take a picture and the lady just stretched out her hand.

:sticktong

original hainanese chikend rice, wonderful pineapples....and of course..

get a hainanese wife back....:bsmilie:

Actually, Hainanese chicken rice is a Singaporean dish. There is still of course chicken rice on Hainan, but it's not how we know it to be like, if I remember correctly, they cook it with
coconut milk.

hmmm... their chicken meat are tougher than than ours here when cooked.
Hainan Island is also quite famous for their coconut products.

Its not a Singaporean dish, if u go ask ard. In fact, the dish is originated from Hainan Island, China. When those Hainan migrants came to Nanyang in the eali days, instead of being coolies, some of them started selling Chicken rice. Thats y nowadays, most ppl selling chicken rice puts "Hainan" in front. So called "branding". If you ask them, they will tell u they are not actually Hainanese.

In Singapore, the hawkers seldom use coconut milk as its "branded" unhealty. Back in Hainan island, they also do not use coconut milk to cook the rice. What makes the rice so special is they put pandan leaves together with garlic to cook the rice. And instead of using boil water(seen at most local hawker), Hainanese usually use the chicken broil to cook the rice. Dats wat thats makes the rice so tasty.

Hey me too. Where ur ancestors came from?? I am from 文昌市. :)

Actually, I did ask around. When I was in Hainan years ago, few people seem to know what I was talking about then. They only know of Wenchang chicken, but it's like most people just eat it with plain rice. My impression was that it was popularized in our region, most culinary books will say it was popularized by the "瑞记" restaurant here. When I was in Wenchang, the one I tried had coconut milk in it. Maybe it was an improvisation? Well if the guy from 文昌 says it's like that, have to take his word for it then.^^
My ancestral home is in 家記, between 乐城 and 博熬.

Well, the best hainan chicken I ever tasted is those free range corn fed chicken. Its skin color and flesh is much more yellow, meat also tender. And served in rice balls, not bowl.

我家鄉在文昌高坡村姓陳
