Which is a better portraiture lens for Nikon camera? 50mm F1.8 or 60mm F2.8D. Please give your opinon and state why. Thanks.

well...personally for the price range...i'd go for the 50.... 10mm aint that much difference to me...

get the 50/1.8 if you are purely using it for portrait. f1.8 can go f2.8, but f2.8 can't go f1.8.

Neither of them are "portraiture" lenses. Try something in the 85-105 mm range.

The 50mm f1.8, because the 1.8 will give a shallower DOF and blur the background better.

after doing lots of reading over internet, the best range is about 85mm to 135mm.

i'm a nikon user, so naturally i'll refer to nikon.
there's a few that's good.

85mm f1.4
105 f2 DC
135 f2 DC

some also said the 70-200 or 80-200 is a good portrait lens too.

85-135mm is because they supposedly give "lesser distortion" on the output image...as in the nose to ear difference is as natural as the human eye would see...that's why they are considered as "portraiture" lenses...

How do you define portraiture lens? By the focal length or the optical construction? If you use it on a DX crop sensor?

Thank you guys and gals for the time. I have purchased the 50mm 1.8. Have not done a print test yet but on screen wise, the skin colour seems to be better on the 60mm 2.8 D. But I have not done a proper test. Maybe later. Now jammed pack.

Nikkor 60mm F/2.8 AFD Micro is designed as a macro lens. Sharp and its lens' construction is looks better than 50mm f/1.8.
