Hi, Im considering recontracting to Maxonline 12000 to get the laptop offer. But how long would be the wait for collection/delivery, does anyone here knows? Pls share your experiences.

Cheers

currently my 4M maxonline cable is about $50+ every month. New contract with free laptop is $71+, it is an additional of $20 plus. $20 x 28 months = $560. Do observe the specs of that laptop... consider entry level.

Provided u need and use the cable internet heavily ! if not wasted.

Hi, thanks for the advice. I have factored in all costs already. As I do need to get an entry-level laptop for my friend, getting this would be most appropriate for me. I only face 2 issues now - 1. How long is the wait 2. No idea if current cable modem can support 12000 speeds.

Thanks! :)

I did sign up fhr the maxonline deal, via the internet.
my estimate, based on the information given in the fine print:
1. for starhub to process application up to 6 weeks, and login my details for HP.
2. login to HP website to order laptop.
3. 1-2 week for HP to contact me to arrange delivery.

Oh well....

Wahhh...I cant wait that long...1 mth +

yup correct. the wait is pretty long. just registered with hp. need one month before i can collect my laptop. coincidentally, that's around chirstmas too:bsmilie: .

i see the most funniest plan is the sign up 3 plans get a 20" LCD with a DVR, think they pulling a fast 1, how come still need a mobile plan but dun seem to benefit much...

was thinking of the DVR but see the condition damnit, 2 year, with 200+ wah lao eh... luck i got 3 digital set top with 2 dvd/hdd recorder that can do timeshift. only thing my room dun have a dvr... super sian is i on ultimate plan for both cable & internet... darn it nothing to redeem...

I've decided to get the desktop but one thing thats holding me back is that I'm told HP desktop casing have a security seal. If the seal is broken than warranty is void. Does that mean that you can't upgrade the ram, or add another HDD or DVD drive or change video cards when you want to? Can't we open the casing to clean the dust inside?

Anyone knows about this policy regarding HP products and if there's a way to get around this? Cos I believe ram is cheaper at Sim Lim and I want to transfer some thibgs from my old PC to the HP one.

Same her bro. I wanted to get the 20" lcd tv and dvr for my room but the cost of the plan is just too much. Might as well go to audio house to get it.

You will need to upgrade from HP itself. This is where they make a killing out of you. The RAM is damn expensive from them. So is the DVD RW.

in all these ready-made brands, their warranties are broken once you break the seal. they dun want to give free repairs to self-created hardware problems.

Thanks for the reply guys. Like that I have to spend more than 500 to get the upgrade 2, 1-3 years warranty and upgrade my ram to 1gb. Maybe I'll just get the default 90 day warranty and do my personal upgrades after that, risking needing the warranty later.

Anyway at the last Electronics fair, I asked this rep at Dell booth if I can open the Dell PC casing to upgrade the ram myself and he said its ok. Maybe he trying to blow smoke, but I din get the PC anyway cos was thinking of DIYing or waiting for this end-year Starhub promo.

Will call HP tomorrow. See what they can offer.

From reading some threads on HWZ, apparently HP will NOT void your warranty if you upgrade RAM, change hard disk etc, even though the seal is broken. In the event of any problems, only if they determined that your upgrade had caused the damage will they void your warranty. You can call HP yourself to verify rather than asking for opinions to be really safe.

Anyway, I'm on MaxOnline and cable TV, but no voice plan. My current M1 mobile plan is coming to an end. So was considering signing recontracting MaxOnline and Digital Cable and to sign up for a mobile plan to get the LCD TV. Don't get what you guys meant by "the cost of the plans is just too much" ?? Thought quite worth it leh since I'm paying for the services anyway

forgot one thing.. the national wireless internet will be up in 2007, which is FREE as said.

and.. prices of laptops will continue to dive cheap in years to come.

Thats why with the national wide wireless, it spured me to get a laptop too. I'm considering the laptop. But the spec abit disappointing. Hmz, i wonder if they might come out a Vista version. XP home media OS is not quite suitable for me.

Hmm now that u mention, is the nationwide free wireless internet also available to homes too? If so, a 28 mths contract would be irreversible by then. Heh..

Another question to ponder: In lieu of upcoming Sitex on 30th Nov, perhaps Starhub will throw in more freebies or better laptop specs? Hmmm

i got the 1st batch hp laptop last year when i sign up for ultimate, then i opt ram upgrade... they sent via reg post the rams to me, then i collect from starhub the laptop. then they dun provide installation, so i install myself. overall, its sales - service... (note - = minus)
