Guys, I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask about this personal issue.

Well, I got a gf who has lent more than SGD 7k to her ex-bf, and her ex-bf was promised to return the money by August. But till now he hasnt intend to pay back. When my gf asked the money from him, he just insist that he has no money, but the thing is he own a car and has a proper job in a five stars hotel, and he just purposely dun want to pay her back. My gf need the money for her studies in a private school urgently. So guys, is there any ways could help her get her money back from that "sucker"(here refer to her ex-bf)? ;(

go to his workplace and ask for the return of the money

I think she has tried, but still he refused to pay her back. I told her, if he said he got no money, then he shall sell his car... sigh... How disgraceful he is! Somemore is she only got a paper that he wrote for her to prove he owes her money, but not sure if it can be an evidence to report to police or what... Any suggestion? Btw, where she shall go to seek help from, police or what?

Is there any witnessed documentation of the loan?

If there IS a written IOU (preferably with a witness signature), then your gf's option are to hand over the case to a lawyer, or to approach a legal/licensed debt collector who would take whatever necessary steps to recover the $. However, for such a small sum, the lawyer option might be out, and debt collectors usually impose a high commission of 30% or more. They have different structures of fees, so check around for the ones that would give you the best deal.

If not, then it's best for the other CS members here to offer their best advise of intelligent, legal and ingenious methods and techniques to get the $ back.

friendly reminder: all suggestions/advice....pls PM the TS, just in case the ex bf is tuning in to CS as well (you never know!).

Maybe u organize a "PHOTOSHOOT" for this model ex-bf. I am sure most Cser will support u

she has got to be a drama mama about it
talk loudly fling hands in the air, cry and scream
basically make a big scene at the hotel
better if there are lots of people around

the security at the hotel will chase her out.....

Thanks for the advise. I am afraid there isnt any witness as they were couples when she loan her money. where can we find those licensed debt collector? High commission still better than getting nothing back I suppose.

then go back another day and make another scene
and again
and again
and again

until he pays back

Will it works? Will tell her that, but my gf is not the type of thick skin, so dun think she is able to do that. Anyway, thanks again for your kind advise.

Licensed debt collectors - Yellow Pages under 'Debt Collector'.

Normally, an IOU may be sufficient. I very the kiasu type and always advise my friends who get into this sort of arrangements to have an independent adult to witness the agreement (and who's willing to testify if need be). The IOUs I have drafted for them look like legal contracts. Just check with the debt collector - some will take, and some won't.

IF your friend wants a reference for a lawyer who doesn't charge very much for this sort of case (a few hundred unless have to go to court), let me know and I'll try to dig for you.

What Ortega said, the more mama the drama, the better. Only problem is she could be arrested for causing a disturbance. Also, at the hotel, he would probably have lots of colleagues and friends who would 'side' him.

I think the most sensible solution is to bring a few close frdz to his house, talk to his parents about this and try to work something out...

If all fails..

Attn: Sucker Blk ???. #??-???, O $ PAY $ HP: #@%^&*#@!

Advise noted. Thanks.

stay within the lines to avoid arrest, leave when told to
but come back again
buy a drink, you automatically become a guest

make him malu

basically do what the debt collectors do
also since she is a woman
make use of that fact to win sympathy
men are suckers for a damsel in distress
cry if need be

Hey, actuallu Orgtega has a point.

She could go to the hotel's lounges or F&B outlets, order a drink and look sad.

Start sobbing after awhile then when witer or waitress ask, spill da beans!

email the hotel top management...

He signed a paper right? Go to the police. Since its EX-bf.

Ask her to the hotel look for him.
Frighten him...
Ask him where his manager or accounts department is. Then say she will ask them for help to see if able to arrange some sort of monthly crediting to her account (ask hotel to deduct his salary and pay her), better still if the AWS & bonus all go straight to her.
