Sets that are imported from other countries and therefore no warranty availible unless international warrenty given or shop warranty given(if bought from shop). They are usually cheaper(of course if not who wants them).

hi ... any future problems if i own a grey set? e.g. singapore won't service the lens for me etc ...

you pay for servicing...thats all...no reason they do not want to service their own products?

Advantage of grey sets, cheaper. Disadvantage of grey sets, no warranty if your product malfunctions.

You mean 1 year warranty? You still can bring grey set to official service center and pay like those warranty set when their warranty is over.

If you like me, never use warranty card, you might want to save some money by getting grey set.

Usually the shop will give you 1 week 1-1 exchange (depend on shop and good will).

Heh... I just finish my camera 1 year warranty.

Arto.

I will never buy grey sets. A few weeks back when i bought my 580EX and brought it home, i found that the LCD backlight was faulty. Fortunately got warranty.

How about those 580EX with international warranty ?

Are they considered grey sets ?

So far, heard that there is not international warranty for flashes...

International warranty are considered grey sets.

Yes u're right. Flashes do not have these warranties, they only have shop warranty.

My 430ex from japan has been serviced for free at Canon Singapore under warranty :) You just need to buy from and authorised distributor and procude the receipt.

Agree! I sent mine for the LCD backlight servicing just less than a week after buying. Canon's servicing is fast, after 1.5 days i got it back. I brought both receipt and warranty card, but i think the receipt is the one that proves purchasing.

Omg, i have been conned ! The guy at photocam peninsula told me that grey sets are those w/o warranty, his comes with international warranty. No wonder he kept emphasizing if anything happens, go to his shop 1st and he will send it for me for repair as it will be faster becuz he knows the ppl at CANON service centre. I found it to be quite suspicious but it was abit cheaper than AP so i bought it... S.H.I.T Him ! Really PHOTOSCAM !
scumbags

Why should an item with an international warranty be considered a grey set?
My understanding is that a grey import is when the item comes in not
through the authorised local agent or distributor. Therefore the item is sold
without the local guarantee provided by that agent.
Need to make the distinction that even items sold through the authorised
local agent or distributor can have an international warranty as well.
So to some who say international warranty equates to being a grey set
may not be entirely correct.

So be careful when u buy from these shops in future. Majority of international warranties are grey sets.
