hi. i am planning to buy one of those "things" that can transfer files from a card to a portable hard disk. any recommendations? i though it was easy to find, but was overwhelmed by the number of choices, so decided to ask CSers for some recommendations and experience. price-wise, it must not be too expensive. thnk!

I am using the Compact Drive from East Gear. It has fast transfer from card to HD, portable and support external power / 4x AA batteries. Good support from East Gear too :)

I too, am using the PD70X from Eastgear. So far so good - file transfer is quick and I like the fact that it uses AA batteries (easy to replace). It hooks up nicely to my PC with no problems.

hi guys. if neglecting price, how would the Creative Zen Vision compare with Compact Drive?

Its 2 different beasts. The creative is a PMP.

Anyway, don't know exactly your needs. For me, for a portable storage, it needs to be light & small. The Compact Drive is considered heavy liao :)
I got the Argosy Photo harddisk; just slightly thicker than an ipod.

yeah. cos someone selling me the Zen vision, and a quick search says that it supports CF transfer. but just wondering how it fares againest the Compact Drive. If Zen's transfer is just slightly slower than Compact Drive, i might prefer Zen Vision since it does much more. but i need some opinions and experiences to make it easier to choose. thanks!

I am using the Creative Zen. Serves me well for photo storage, downloads via CF card slot as well as entertainment - MP3 player. Also, it is fantastic for quick photo presentation (with MP3 music) via AV out to TV. Images are decent when projected. Good investment for me thus far. They have the 60G version now.

you mean Zen Vision M is it? the one with the USB external host?

well i got the jabbo 40GB portable hard drive + multiple card reader slots and brought it to europe, not bad not so heavy but then again runs on internal rechargeble, but to me it last :D :D

guys, is there one for SD card copy??? those mention above seems like for compact cards only leh.

how is NEXTO CF OTG ND-2300 - CASE ONLY??? what does it mean by case only? other suggestions? does SLS sell cheaper?

How come no one mention P-2000? Can read both CF and SD, a superb screen that can be used to playback photos and watch movies on-the-go too. :)

One thing I don't like about it is the controls for movie playback, but well, that's not it's primary purpose anyway...

cos i can only find 2nd hand Zen Vision.

Case only mean - they sell the casing w/o any harddisk.
U have to buy or use ur own harddisk.

i have the DigiMate II which takes a laptop hard drive. it seems to do the job well enough for its $60 price (no hard drive).

when did your purchased your Digimate? interested in getting one as well!

i got it about a month ago from eBay. i already had a couple of laptop hd's lying around so i only needed to get the empty one.

it's very simple to use. just plug in the media format and press a button to copy everything on the card over.

Hmm I was looking for a portable HDD to use as a back up to my computers at home as well as being able to back up my photos on the fly. Came across the following which sort of fufill my requirement.

1. Civx HDD player OTG ($119)
http://consus.com.sg/productmm00002.html

2. Noax HDD player(think is from japan)($139)
http://www.thanko.jp/divxplayer.html

From wat the dealer(@SLS) said , OTG allows any files to be copied to the HDD directly through the USB cable to the camera or card readers by the press of a buttom. Not too sure if u can copy HDD to HDD though. Well its good since u no longer have to ask ur friends to sent u ur photos but just simply duplicate on the spot from their camera. COOL:bsmilie:
Apart from that, the system also can act as a video and music player which can output to TV and music system. Pretty useful for chalet and oversea trips where pictures taken earlier can be viewed on TV. It can also play movies and stuff:) Finally it can be used as a portable HDD to back up my files in my com ( my primary use)

Most important of all, It dun burn a big hole right through my pocket considering it does so much.
Some points to note:
1.When they say case only means u can buy a HDD and put it in. ie u can choose the capacity of the HDD (250GB anyone?) Normally those player that comes with HDD is only 40GB or 80GB which I think is little comsidering that the sweet point is increasing.

2. Please ask if the player comes with battery or battery pack! One system from Sarotech cause so much more but dun have battery support?? So how can anyone be really back up OTG if u need to find a power point to use it.... So much for portable

Finally, Can anyone who used the OTG system before comment on how good is it?? I am more incline towards the Cvix HDD player cause it looks nicer and have controls on the device instead of relaying everything on the remote controller. However, the uncle said the Noax system is more established (in japan) and have better playback quality. Any comment?

Using the X-Drive VP6300 for a few years already. No problem so far. Sadly it's only 20Gb which is miserable by today's standard. Just changed the Li-ion battery. Maybe changing to a higher capacity unit soon.

Wow nice looking device. How much is it? trying to keep my budget within $300 while getting the most buck for space and function
