Hi,
was at watching the DAN's fest and saw that most of the official photographers are using 70-200mm f2.8 for their shots no matter what brand of camera they uses. Anyone can enlighten me why? I thought a better lens will be 17-50mm 2.8 or 24-80mm 2.8 whch can cover a wider area?

a better lens in terms of quality / wide / zoom does not mean that it's more suitable for a given event.

You like Long Hair Gal ... Than Long Hair Gal look pretty To You ..

Then fisheye will be more wider.
great lens for wider area.

For some of these events, close-ups of the expressions of the artistes' face are impostant just as the wider shot of the kind of dance that they are performing. So a 70-200 f2.8 (no flashes so as not to distrub the crowd) is a good lens as well as a normal 17-50mm 2.8 or 24-70mm 2.8

i think why ppl using 70-200 f2.8 cos can shoot the subject more closer and more tighter rather than having the subject with some background happening

correct me if i m wrong, by the way how much is sigma 70-200mm f 2.8?

anyone selling

ps: sorry to of thread

never to use Nikon standard to compare with Sigma...after 1 to 2 years or so u will know what's the different in between this 2 lens..Obviously the price can tell u all..No offends to all the Sigma users..

It's heavy  but bigger lenses are usually easier to attract attention of the subject.

It is the best lense for portraits and the bokeh is very good. For events the lense can zoom in closer for tighter crop. My humble opinion.
