i dunno if this is the correct folder to post.please feel free to move it elsewhere if moderators deemed this is posted in the wrong folder.

i was telling my gal friend about CS yesterday.i was commenting how pro some of the photographers here are.
and i mentioned some of the works, eg, the lingerie shoot in the dilapidated colonial houses in sentosa(?) or somewhere else.

she then popped a question which i couldnt answer.

"why lingerie in these setting?what has lingerie got to do with old worn down houses?"

i'm hoping to get some answers from you guys.
is is because just because it's a lingerie shoot, it will attract more participants, hence more 'revenue'?:bsmilie:
or is it because most(read:most) guys will go for such shoot instead of shooting macro, landscapes blahx3?

i've never had the intention of starting this topic to be a potential flame thread, so take it easy.it's just a straightfoward question.dont think too far and deep ya?:bsmilie:

Seriously speaking, any "old worn down houses" are good subject for background for portraiture, be it pretty lady in clothes or old man smoking cigar...

I agree with jeanie...But definitely not lingerie shots... These are best left to be done in studio settings. It's been a long time since I attended the outings organized by Photo-Art Association of Singapore (PAS).

Jeanie brought up two issues

The first issue is the appropriateness of the background to the lingerie. Not the background per se.

The second issue is "why lingerie" shoots?

err not that i shoot these kind of photos

but i would suppose that the location is arranged by the org and not the choice of the photog

lingerie should be in the bedroom or just outside the main door

And one more thing.

Yes, "portraiture" is a likeness of a person.

But what is the main purpose when one photographs a young woman in a lingerie? Honestly, if one is interested in "portraiture", is the lingerie necessary?

Some photogs may be looking for "impact" or "contrast", so shooting lingerie with old worn houses as background will sure create the impact or contrast, some will like and some will not like, but then photography is all about illusion only...

yes, i definitely agree lingerie should be in bedroom, or studio.

moreover, getting the models to strip outdoors, are they against the law if caught?
also, what protects these models' modesty?
what if 'bad guys' appear?will the photographers/organisers protect these models with their life?of course, i'm talking about extreme cases, eg rape.

i understand these outdoor shoots are organised by organisers:bsmilie:
but without demand, will there be supply?
:dunno:

i'm definitely not against these shoots.it's just that it aroused my curiousity when my friend asked me about the relevance btwn lingerie and dilapidated houses.

theres no hard and fast rule for glamour photography that it has to be done inside, or in a studio. go look at any of the glamour books at riceball or in a bookshop.

as others have pointed out... the important thing is that there is a "match" between the outfits and the surroundings.

for example, lingerie on a beach... that can be quite hard to pull off... as opposed to swimsuits.

but lingerie may work in an old house for example - if say it was a S&M theme or something like that.

Well, I agree with u lingerie is not necessary, but u and me cannot impose our "value" upon other photographers, as we also dont want other ppl to impose their "value" upon us.

maybe this person is a sex kitten? or she likes to sleep alot

or she is sleepwalking and ended up in an old deserted house

Oh, I am not imposing anything.

Just raising questions.

so you never shot anyone in lingerie before?

:dunno: Portrait shoots focus on the person... lingerie may not be necessary. But some girls would want to model lingerie too ... y not... it's a whole different ball game. Different clothes bring out different feel.... Abandoned dilapidated houses are v good backgrounds becos there is alot more contrast. The whole idea is more of a fashion shoot too. Honestly, as a girl, I think I would rather shoot lingerie in an abandoned house/warehouse than in a studio. Bedroom of course.. but it's a whole different feel too. So it should depend what you want to achieve. If portrait = just shooting the person, then she can be in super ugly clothes?? No excuse right... what the model wears will affect how she feels about herself and the emotions she can bring out as well. THe settings also make alot of difference. Bedroom - maybe more sexy... studio lingerie - personally i don't really like, abandoned houses - more attitude..

Nothing. People just want to have different backgrounds for variety. Hotel rooms, old dilapidated houses, studios, etc. Can't just be "if it's lingerie, it must be studio". That would be so boring.

You mean revenue for organisers and the models? Of course! The less clothes the model wears, the more the photographers pay!

You can always have different backdrops in the studio.. ;)

nobody twists a model's arm to get her to dress and pose in a lingerie. in other words, do it only if one feels confident and comfortable about it.

Its probably just a fettish. The lingerie, I mean. :bsmilie:
