Took some lens shot of my lens.
Used additional standing lamp for lighting the side.

my walkabout lens.

find out my own mistake is, tend to use too much DOF..
keke.. can't help it when i am using the prime 50mm to take these shots.

woah dude, you might want to watch out for the hazey reflections on the front of the lens and the bodies of the lens. you might want to consider removing the filters, too. most people would want to see the coating of the lens ya?

for the most part, the angles you set for the camera and products don't really do much for the lenses. e.g the 2nd shot. if you want to go for a really frontal straight on, watch out for the back of the lens peeking out at the top.

sorry if i sound kaypoh

Tks. the reflections I shoot at the angel, when my flash can bounce it off. show the colour of the lens.

more effect than just the plain boring look. the angle I set is from a book I got.
seem like the expert got it wrong too.. hahaha..! Yup, tks for the tip on back of lens peeking.

I used two set of lights, one from my living room, and extra side standing lamp to light the left. My external flash, bounce from the right. Lesser of a shadow.

i am thinking, perhaps the "expert" has got it right in the book, but you somewhat executed it differently lol.

just curious to know, what exactly did it say about setting 'the angle'?

Its exactly the same.

so this is a trick post.

testing to see if ppl just comments to criticize or constructive comment. haha..

Let me go back n scan the pic. keke..

hey bwilly, do state when you do not want C&C,then no one will give them.

Everybody's idea of "nice" is different, what's in a book is not necessarily everyone's cup of tea. Not to mention the angle of an object is not the only defining characteristic of a photograph, there's also lighting angle, DoF and stuff like that.

I do believe stereobox has given constructive comments.

Whatever u scan in from whatever book you have and post here is irrelevant.

 that mean's i've been tricked!! good one :bsmilie:

exactly the same, even with the poor spelling and bad grammar? =P anyway, that settles my doubt then....indeed you have executed it differently from what has been written. because i don't see any "colour" or "effect" more than "just the plain boring look".

but i don't understand why you have to write a trick post, because i don't have cruel intentions  :bheart:

not to pour cold water, but i think you've made one more own mistake.

you can't 'use too much DOF' (assuming DOF meant depth-of-field). you can increase or decrease the DOF, but you just can't "use too much of it" =P in any case, you have relatively very shallow DOF in most of the shots, not "too much".

Its ok, C&C is fine with me. One man cup of tea, is another guy poison.
I went for a course recently, even the lecturer who has won a few international awards, and the pic that he was showing us was being commented such and such by one of the student. Eventually he had to tell the student "well, this photo has been used a few times by magazines, so I don't see if its wrong to me."

Can see that you can't please everyone from there. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I do appreciate people giving comments, like what you see wrongly, how to do it better.
Rather - oh.. its just do not look good to me.

N pls read carefully what I posted after stereobox comments. I thanked him at least twice for constructive comment. Whereas you go crapping abt tis n tat which just to me, yeah, you wanted to make a presence here.

yea, stereobox, I have nothing against u, I do appreciate good constructive comments that are coming forth.

I also do not need people to show me they can take better pics than me or have much better works to C&C. I am passed that stage.

er..you're welcome, dude? :dunno:

indeed, you do have a point there. realistically, we just can't please everyone. however, there are points to look out for when shooting products, 'rules' which don't just exist for no reasons. the reason i asked for clarification about what the book says is because you used words like "expert", "from a book i got". there seems to be a disparity in expectations, between what words like "expert" entails, and what is being shown here.

if indeed what you have shot is exactly what the book says, then yes, you have got it right! if it isn't, that's why i suspected perhaps you have done it a bit differently. by seeking clarification, that leaves things for open discussion, isn't it? and i do want to learn tips from the book, too =P

i hope you clear up matters with scenar, i'm sure it's all just a misunderstanding.

What do you mean by a "trick" post?

Are you saying that there is only one "correct" angle to shoot and compose this type of frontal shot, and any other method is "wrong" and therefore if you follow exactly the same as what is shown to you by an "expert", then anyone who disagrees with it is "wrong", and you can prove that you're right and prove any critics "wrong" by scanning the "expert"'s picture and show it to us?

:dunno:

In any case, there is always a reason behind why certain angle is preferred ..... such as may be by showing the back of the lens slightly, it would give an impression that it's a 3-D object instead of 2-D.

Please, stop veiling your wish to fish for complements. We really have enough of that kind.

You were hoping for all the  "great shot" kind of replies. If you were indeed pass the stage of "ego inflation" what's up with saying it was a trick post and comparing it to a "similar" shot in some book u claim was taken by an "expert" ?

Stop being insecure about your work. Shoot for yourself, if you are happy with it, that is good enough, it does not matter what others say.

If on the other hand, you post your photos, be ready for comments, u need not defend your work by simply saying that some "expert" has done something similar too.

If the photos are universally praised,

It is a brilliant photo, you should be a professional

If you can appeal to a particular segment,

It is just a matter of taste

If no one really likes it,

Maybe its not as good as you thought it was.
