Hi,

Pls pardon my ignorance but I like to understand more about the resolution on LCD mornitor.

Why does these different size screens (the 17" and 19") shares the same 1280x1024 resolution size, whereas the 19"W is 1440x900?

Thank You.

17" and 19" share the same resolution size because they actually have the same number of pixels. The pixels are just larger for the 19".

For the 19"W, the pixels have to be arranged differently. That is, more pixels going across the width and less pixels for the height... so that the screen becomes wide.

It's really very simple.

Does that means in theory the 17" monitor (1280x1024=1310720 pixels) is "larger" than the 19"W (1440x900=1296000 pixels)?

Thank You for your reply.

Well... it has more pixels... but that does not make the screen larger. That is dependent on the pixel size. But I think you got the idea. :)
