It's the new rifle thingy I suppose? Been called up end Oct. Juz wondering... Do all NSmen get called back to familiarize with it?

For those who have gone thru it, how was the session?

Which unit are u from?
I from PDF, still using M-16. so no call-up I guess.

SCE... no call up...

dun think we will go..

we still using 'water gun'... :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

hm. liddat lor. chop chop curry pok. theory, technical handling. then technical handling test, then day and night range. fail? reshoot.

the weapon has a scope, so it's very accurate and easy to use in the day. at night... the #$@#$! laser aiming thing... hehe, better not say too much lah.

huh? my unit condemned unit! :bsmilie: rules of engagement course also don't have ah.
give us concentina wire to lay only lah. hahaa... enemy come sure die, still using the "PIG".

Not sure if the course actually has a name, but I've been through it because still serving NS in the MP camp. It's the usual stuff: technical handling test, TSR test, familiarisation shoot etc. I suppose that I'll be using the SAR 21 intead of the AR-15 or M-16 in the next combat shoot.

Hope for better luck this time. During the ATP shoot and the last combat shoot I had a different rifle for each and they were both super IA-prone. Ended up returning many unused rounds at a time and really cost me the marksman.

I had been called-up for the coversion. Its oni a 2D1N thingy.
Morning in-pro, den straight go range, Handling test done at range, den zeroing.
After lunch, immediate day shoot.
After dinner, night shoot commence.
Next day, Morning clean arms, return stores (Cleaning kit).
After lunch, out-pro liao.

I'd exercise caution when talking about defence-related things here, especially when you give specific info like what unit you come from and its training programmes. We already know that gahmen people now look at ClubSnap and they don't like us talking about such things.

But for what it's worth, SAR-21 conversion very easy one. Nothing to worry about. I think within 1 hr can master the weapon already.

got mine when the first few batches where out, but then was pretty unofficial, 30mins crash course then some range. Now all clean forget liao :bsmilie:

Yup...mine was conducted in my own camp...at Sungei Gedong...2 D 1 N thing...1st day is intro + technical handling session (usual drill like strip assembly weapon, loading/unloading, IA drill etc), then 2nd day is technical handling test in morning + afternoon shoot and then nite shoot. 3RD day outprocess loh!!

All I can say is...the weapon is pretty accurate...and for night also if u zero the LAD (laser aiming device) properly. just centre the red dot on the target board and shoot. Almost cfm hit one. Of my day/nite shoot I only missed one shot (at nite).

Oh yeah you can also apply the photographer's technique of camera handling with long zoom lens, hold the image steady, breath in, take the shot...same thing except its with a rifle instead and you are looking thru scope instead of viewfinder..and it works!

finished all NS ICT liao...;)

The SAR 21 scope is a very nice touch admittedly. Makes things faster because no zeroing is really needed. I only wish the scope had an autofocus drive...you know, aim it at the target, squeeze the trigger slightly and it focuses on the target. Then squeeze all the way to fire the round. Imagine how fun that would be. :bsmilie:

Let's suggest that on our next WITS project!

Thanks all who replied. Some very farnie! Like fWord's comparison with camera. Hmm, they should include USM motor huh.. Hey IS (Image Stabilizer) will definitely help a lot especially if we pant! In war, and when left with the weapon to save your own life from the enemy, I bet it will convince even the sceptics of IS technology that it helps! (Sorry me a Canon user, other brand users pls replace those terms with your own. Hee..)

Ok enuff jokes..

match80, so where do u all sleep after nite range? Go back to bunk in camp? It's only a 100m rundown is it or you all just fixed at one spot when shooting? Haven't done this for so long....

Terrible, they just sent me a mail. Didn't even say what to bring, what's the schedule like, etc. First letter says report in camp by 7am, second says by 7.30am. Moreover I dun drive and live far from the camp.

Thanx....

got IS anot?

The current batch of SAR21(approx. Mk1) ...leaves a lot to be desired in terms of QC. Do check your scopes before you fire. Zero them and ignore those who tell you that the scopes are hunky-dory.

As per normal.

Learn how to strip, assemble in 1min. And go for range. Learn the technical specs, that's abt it.

For urban assault, I feel that the SAR21 is pretty handy, given its short barrel size compared to the M16. The transparent magazine is quite nice as well.

My only grouse is that, its only 'right hand shooter compatible'. No left handed version. :( My shooting score went down by 50% since I have lazy right eye. Also dun like the laser sight, very distracting. Still prefer the old iron sight. Optical sight's pretty nice, but since its like seeing thru a 600mm lens where a small handshake would be amplified, I still prefer the iron sight.
