Hi all,

Been reading the now-closed torchlight thread, but need to know one thing, which torch is recommended for the below:

1. very bright ;p
2. Preferably 2-stage power mode (high/low) to conserve energy
3. Use standard AA or AAA, not the more expensive CR123
4. Below SGD$100
5. LED-based
6. Not using more than 2 AA batteries (i.e. compact and light design)

Need it for occassional fishing trips and on longer trips in the wild (when I ever do go again :p )

Have got the Fenix L2T in mind, and at S$70+ is within my budget. Any others better than the Fenix?

Thx :)

havent been checking up on flashlights for some time. Fenix should be the one you're going for, within your budget, quaility output and reasonable runtime.

Go for it

Have you seen those at EG?

What's EG? Sorry, not familiar with the lingo :bsmilie:

he meant EastGear, they are selling those 15LED, 20LED type flashlights, and probably some with Luxeon

PM CatEYE..he has one model of torchlight that uses rechargeabe batts (which he sells as a package together with charger), which he told me law enforcement officers order from him too..price is under $100 IIRC..

What is the brand, do you know? Can't be SureFires from the price :)

I've PMed him last night already, as I saw that he was trading in torches, but I guess he's seldom on CS.

Cummon ramius where are you? Show them your light saber of double AA batteries!!!

How much is the L2T?

Lumens? Battery life? LED or Luxeon bulb? Water-proof? Any warranty? What's the dimension?

Do you have a website where I can view through what are the choice you have and price range?

Thanks dude!

Ever considered headlamps? If your usage is for fishing / wilderness where sometimes it is critical to have both hands free, headlamps will be a (much much much much) better option. Actually, most of the time it'll always be useful to have two hands free.

Can consider Petzl, quite a reputable brand. I think there's a shop on the 4th or 5th selling climbing equipment that carries this brand. Runs on either AA or AAA batteries. High end models will have the 'intense' or normal mode option.

Personally I'm using an Energizer headlamp that runs on 3AAA batts. Cheap and useful, even at home (i.e., doing detail work), roadside repairs.

IMHO headlamps should be considered unless your light output (or reliability) requirements can only be satisfied by a flashlight, or you are afraid of looking silly while wearing a headlamp.

Flashlight in mouth is cool, but gets tiring after a while you know... =D

Thanks dude, but I already have a Black Diamond headlamp. Bought from (probably) the same shop you were referring to at Peninsular Plaza. There are 2 shops there, one on the 2nd floor (selling BD) and one on the 4th floor (selling the Petzl).

I'm looking for an alternative to my more bulky Black Diamond (halogen) headlamp. I know Petzl has small LED ones, but I guess I don't need 2 headlamps! :bsmilie:

Maglite is passe......thought there is still many collecting them. Short battery life, orange beam, if you can get over it. BTW, there's a newer LED version of miniMag AA.

Head over to CPF, you'll be awe struck by the type of flashlights pple all over the world are collecting and buying!
