Procedure for converting to International Driving License?

Actually Singapore drivers license is valid for many countries for the short term. There is no need to get an international license. I've used my Singapore license in the US for 1 whole year without problem, even when the cops there stopped me for speeding 
But if you do want to get an international license, AA near Leng Kee is where you should go. It's just a less than half an hour event, but you gotta go within their office hours. Check out their website at http://www.aas.com.sg/ under the services tab.

frenchean, you could have been lucky that you didn't get into trouble, some cops in the US can be real jerks. If they wanted to make things difficult they could have.
But my suggestion, just to be on the safe side, is to get one.
As it has already been mentioned, AA would be the place to get the International license done. And don't forget you will need to bring a passport photo and I think $20, unless they have raised their prices since I last got mine.

afaik, reciprocal arrangements... good for one year...
rented cars wif SG license many times.., no problems..
Cops in US quite rule abiding.. from my experience...
Not sure about their being jerks but if they hold u up bcos of using SG license...

Well, it's easy to get a license in the US with the DMV.
It's like 25 USD for the theory and 1x practical test. (Not sure for other states, but that's the rates for CA). License is valid for 5 years if you have green card or really long H1 visa.
Else it last you till the date specified in your I-94.
It's actually a IDP. (International Driving Permit)
Merely allows you to "communicate" better with highway patrols / cops.
Cost SG$20. Waited like 5 ~ 10 minutes. Must bring your photo.
IIRC, Illinois Driving Licence is $10, valid for 3 years only, but I was using a J1 visa that time. :think:

For the state of IL, I need to do an online quiz and then do a practical which the test instructor will ask a few questions regarding safety and etc.
I have been driving with SG license in various state and never encounter any problem for more than 10 yrs.
Arizona license is for 30 years. Converted from a California license. They will not let you convert your Singaporean or international driving license, you will have to take the theory and practical test. The driving test there, in the US is sooooooo easy, no brainer. Almost ran over a silly pedestrian who walked in front of me when he shouldn't have, yet I passed.
Cops in the US are generally nice, there are a few jerks out there, so just be careful. If you get pulled over particularly at night, turn on dome light and keep your hands on the steering wheel. It was a piece of advice a cop gave to me. Wait for them to come to the car before you start pulling out your license, insurance and registration. If you have a weapon, be it a knife or a gun, let him know you have one and the location of the weapon. Keep in mind also in some states it is illegal to have a gun, I think particularly California.
Just some advice to make your trip a little bit more enjoyable and stress free.

that time i took the test, i don't have to do online quiz. just written theory test. with regards to practical test, no questions asked.
