Re: Official Plane Spotting Thread.
haha.. just make a call and apron transport is there to pick you up.. haha..
If they are using RWY02C/20C, then its good for you.. just infront of D44.. But if they try to prevent people from getting a glimpse along Coastal Road then probably they would be using RWY 02L/20R.
Its on 5th Sept, Saturday..

The race will be conducted on RWY 20R and taxiway Whisky Papa (information confirmed with CAAS and Changi Airport Group).

Re: Official Plane Spotting Thread.
Mmm,
but the race is only 1.7km long .. I suppose the 747 will b doing a max take-off reject. I wonder who will win .. I suppose for porsche can do the 1-100km much faster than the 747 but the max speed still goes to the jet .. wonder if 1.7km is enough to bring the hulk to momentem

The 747's take-off speed is around 260km/h but ultimately can reach a speed of 800+km/h which i doubt it'll be able to on the runway as that's the max speed in air. The runway's length is a lot longer than that cos due to RTO allowance with full thrust reverse and brakes.
If the porche can go more than the 747's take-off speed, it may have the upper hand.

Re: Official Plane Spotting Thread.
For the first time in Asia, a Porsche 911 GT3 Carrera Cup car will challenge a Jett8 Airlines B747 jetliner for supremacy on the runway of Changi Airport, in the race of a lifetime.
Weighing in at just 1,160 kg in race trim, the Porsche can achieve a top speed of about 280 km/h, accelerating from standing start to 100km/h in about 3.4 seconds. The car will be driven by Yuey Tan, the youngest Singaporean to compete in the Carrera Cup Asia Season.
Yuey will be competing against Peter Leo, who, at 29, was the youngest Singapore Airlines pilot to have made Captain on the B747. Peter will be flying empty to achieve maximum speed on the runway.
This " at 29, was the youngest Singapore Airlines pilot to have made Captain on the B747"
i was like wow.

yea .. but the race section is only 1.7km i heard .. they're not using the entire runway .. plus to add on the fact dat if the plane reaches v1 .. the plane has to lift off .. The results will b interesting ...

It won't lift off if the pilot doesn't allow it to.

RTO? Not going to happen unless it's a actual emergency before V1, as in the event of a RTO, Airport Emergency Service (AES) will be mobilised and somebody is going to spend the day writing a darn long report. There are sufficient runway length available for the B742F.
The checkered flag will probably be waved at taxiway Whisky 6 or taxiway Whisky 7 directly in front of terminal 3 based on the 1.7 km race distance.

Cowz probably meant that the flight crew has absolutely no choice but to take-off after V1 without overrunning the runway, a RTO after the 80 knots high speed phase and before V1 is only executed in the event the aircraft is absolutely incapable of sustain flight.

I believed the nearest public accessible road to the location of the actual race is Tanah Merah Besar Road (somewhere near Changi prison), though I doubt you'll still be able to see the race even from there. Sorry.

The Kalita 747 accident was most probably due to a fuselage defect resulting from hard landing.
