I personally think that they are a very big and reputable company operating in many countries and they have a reputation to protect, and I will not hesitate to get from them if the price is right.

If that is a worry for you, just get a local set and enjoy your photography. No point worrying over such matters.

And when you finally get this lens (a good copy), I am pretty sure you will love it
hmmm.. i saw there are some complaint abt them not willing to service equipments or took a long time which are sold by them. I pretty sure i read them in clubsnap.

I got two copies of the sigma 50mm from dd electronics. One for my sis, one for me. My sis one was perfect, total spot on focus. Mine had af issue. FF/BF at different range.

My first email to them to discuss about the issue was 1 day after purchase on 18th June. After more than half a month of communication and waiting, they took my lens in saying they will bring back to their agent for calibration...but funny thing is they never even take in body, nor wrote down the af issue I had, so I am honestly not expecting too much. Still waiting for my lens to come back after more than a week...

So to sum it up, they do honor their shop warranty, but it might take quite long to get things sorted out.

I think they will just bring in a new one for you instead of calibrating.....you may want to check with them.

Anyway can we continue with the Sigmalux discussion instead of talking about DDE? There are a few threads about DDE in consumer corner. Any questions you all may have maybe can just post it there.

I only started talking about dde because someone was asking. They probably won't exchange it for a new one coz from what I understand, they don't have ready stock in canon mount.

Ok back to the lens. This 50mm f/1.4 is a wonderful lens. Some say the colour is not as good as L lens, but IMHO, the colours are great and the bokeh is good. I like it so much that I ordered one after trying my sis's.

Ok to be really fair, the 50L is still the ultimate best for the 50mm focal length. If I am very rich, I will definitely buy it.....but I am not. I will say the Sigmalux is about close to 80%-90% the performance of the 50L in terms of final result. I too like the colour rendition of this lens and it's circular bokeh very much. I think based on the price for a grey set (someone mention $500+ only), it is definitely the best you can get.

    Photo sharing time again:

I just love the sharpness of this lens.

This was taken at f1.8 on a gloomy day

Bro, the focus point is on the tomato on the left. I was moving my body backward to reach MFD.

    Exif:
    Exposure 0.1 sec (1/10)
    Aperture f/3.5
    Focal Length 50 mm
    ISO Speed 800

There's some handshake in this shot, as expected from the slow shutter. I did not shoot wide open as I wanted some DOF. There is a slight crop to this picture.

I have tried 6 copies of this lens from recent batch S/N 119xxxxx. 5 had af issues as described by lensrental. Factory recalibration solved the FF issue for me at near range, but the BF issue at far range was still very problematic.

    http://www.lensrentals.com/rent/lens...-hsm-for-canon

Perhaps it is not af calibration but my cam body. Or maybe the one that af perfect was a lemon, but one that works with my camera. I think the issue can be solved if the body and lens are sent in for calibration.

The bf at far range problem is solved if I stop down to f/2.5.

    Anyone else with similar issue?

I am facing this problem with the Sigma 24/1.8 on D300s as well. But when used on D700, the issue is gone.

Firstly, if you can get a great copy without focusing issue, it will be better than the Canon's version without a doubt.

As to your second question, the f1.4 is the largest aperture that this lens can open up. It does not means that you must die die use f1.4 at all times. For me, I use f1.4 only when I need really shallow DOF, or in very dark situations when flash is not allowed. But my most used aperture for this lens is f2 to f4 for portraits and f8-f14 for landscape. Really, there's no fixed rule as to what aperture must be used. It is up to us, the shooters. Having f1.4 does give me the opportunity to get some creative shots though......

Lastly, this is my favourite lens now, so that says alot about this lens....I have owned some L lens in the past, and for the price of the sigmalux, I doubt you can find anything better at the same price range. Get it and enjoy it bro!

    Hi all sigmalux users,

the usual question, i am stuck between the canon ef and the sigmalux, i heard some inconsistency about sigmalux but not on the canon. i have a few question, can the sigmalux users advice my below query?

    1. at f1.4, sigmalux sharper or canon sharper?
    2. for those who encounter af issue, after service, did the issue comes back?

i like the smooth bookeh of sigmalux, but what draws me back is the AF issue and the bad after sales service.

hope you guys can advice me. thanks in advance.

The issues that you've heard about are probably overhyped.

After trying and owning a few copies, I don't think the af issue is over-hyped. However, I don't think it is due to what many have claimed as QC issue at Sigma.

This is a lens that I sold multiple times to go for the 50L but only to end up with it again. Just can't justify paying 4x the price for the 50L.

Had an opportunity few weeks back to test my new copy when I stopped-by ShiShi City(石狮市), China, for meeting. I think all were shot wide open or near wide open as I was testing the af at further distance.

    Stone Lion City (石狮市)

Increasingly common sight in China, where one-child policy is getting more flexible...

Elegant girl with pretty dog walking in the nearby park. My focus was on the dog, but it seems the guys are focusing on her...

More than bokeh, I was more interested in testing the af...so most of the shots were done at a distance between 3-10m where it tends to struggle a little when wide open.

Common sight on the road in china. Motorcycles have replaced bicycles, even in 2nd and 3rd tier cities.

    Manual Push Cart...

Overall I am happy with the af on street usage, but there is some amount of front focus at very close focus distance.
