Re: Problem with Tamron 18-200mm len
try the lens with a different body and the body with a different lens, and see which one is causing the error message?

Then something wrong with the lens loh. Send it into the agent for service? And don't expect great service from the agent at the damn far fetched ulu place.
From June 2010 onwards, i'm a Pentaxian again... after 5yrs. From the K-7 to presently K-5.

Re: Problem with Tamron 18-200mm len
Usually, the problem is the aperture control in your lens. The root cause is a defective flexible cable that connects the aperture mechanism to the lens PCB control.
With parts easily available online, even 3rd party repairman can fix your lens
Of course, if it's still within warranty, just send it to the agent

Re: Problem with Tamron 18-200mm len
Hi
I got my 17-50mm VC from a fellow clubsnapper here. Same issue. I just send it in today. It seems like the firmware needs to be updated. I asked the service guy and thats what he told me. He got one similar case (7D as well. I am using 7D too) two weeks back and basically the lens is perfect just that the firmware does not recognise the new cross type sensor signal from 7D. It seems like the cross type sensor at the side of the focusing screen uses a different signal. One of the tes he suggested was to use live view, the fault will almost appear immediately.
Anyway I will await their call and see what they say. Will update again.

just collected my lens. they didn't find any fault with it and did a software upgrade. shall test and see how is it. accordingo the reception, this is a common issue a d usually fixed with an update.

Just to follow up to close the issue.
Canon Officially Acknowledges Lens ID Issue « Canon Rumors
I have tried shooting for a while and my lens is perfect fine. In fact with the new software update, the focus speed seems faster and the VC kicks in faster than before.

Wait a minute, this is a bit strange. If lens shows error in both 7D and 550D, then firmware update on 7D will not solve the problem

Re: Problem with Tamron 18-200mm len
sorry TS for hijacking your thread for awhile..
to fellow clubsnappers, i'm thinking of getting 18-200mm lens for my 500D..
i'm now in japan so hope to get it here before i head back to sg next week..
what i saw here in japan,
Sigma 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 II OS HSM - 38600 yen [about SGD 609]
Tamron AF 18-200mm f3.5-6.3 - 15800 yen (from the sales person this has no image stabilizer, is it true??)
which one do you guys recommend?

The current Tamron superzoom that is worth looking at nowadays is the Tamron 18-270 VC PZD.
And lenses in Japan are generally more expensive than Singapore or HK.

anyway, i have decided to buy tamron 18-200mm.. checked a few of the threads, some of them sold them at SGD 300 and SGD 430.. i got this here in japan for 15800 yen which is about SGD 250.. quite cheap in terms of yen (if you have enough to spend) and if you dont think of converting it to SGD..

I had the impression too, and that is true for most lens brands except for Tamron. Tamron lenses are actually cheaper, even at the superstore outlets in Tokyo.
