Question Is the A95 too complicated for dad?

Hi one and all,

My dad is keen on getting a digital compact camera. Since i am a canon fan, i am not really keen on looking at any other brands. Generally speaking, i feel that japanese products are rather user friendly.

Bearing in mind that my dad can't read english and is rather adverse to advance technology. Do you think that A95 is a good choice? Would the learning curve be too steep for him? Basically, he just needs a P n S camera.

He is adamant on the A95 'cos of the 5 mega pixel. Sigh, having been convinced by some salesman, he has the mentality that the more pixels there is, the better it is.

Can anyone who has the A95 or knows something about it advise? Main concern here is not the cost but the ''user friendly-ness'' of the camera. I just want him to be happy with his purchase and not end up with something he will have difficulty using.

Thank you.

Just set the camera to 'auto' or 'p' mode. Easy enough for those not into photography.

Whether the pictures turn out the way he wants it is another matter

I think you also need to consider what happens after the pictures are taken. How to transfer to computer, to view and organise the photos, archive for safe-keeping, to print, etc.
If you're helping him with all this, then shouldn't be much of a problem.

The A series should be very easy to handle, and as user-friendly as it gets.

Give him what he wants since he seems to have already made up his mind - buy the A95 and use it in idiot proof mode.

You avoid having to quarrel with him that way, and if he regrets buying it, you can tell him IT'S HIS OWN FAULT!

AA batteries & CF are things that I *really* like about the A95.
Just have your dad pay attention that it's set to Auto before taking his pictures, effectively making it a P&S.

I have a little sling pouch I carry the camera in, and ever so now and then in the process of putting it in, or taking it out, the mode dial will 'turn' to something else. It significantly sucks after taking a few shots to realise the cam is in 'slow shutter' mode. !@#%$%

The A95 is a decent size, and older people find this much easier to handle unlike some of those really tiny cameras.

MY dad has the perfect way of transferring images onto the computer. He just walks up to me and hands me the CF card and tells me 'it's full...'

For a simple Point and shoot, go for the Nikon (more inbuilt preset program). Canon had too many features which your dad will not be using.

I received quite a few PMs,asking me about the price and package.

I paid $595 including GST for it from Ms colour. No freebies included. Got this price via the eqoute. http://www.mscolor.com.sg/

As this is the 3rd A95 I got from them, I may have gotten it cheaper. Recommend that anyone who is interested in getting from them, send them a equote as well.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
