Default Is it worth spending on original batteries?

Greetings,

I'm a recent owner of a brand new G6 and I saw the need to get a spare batt
for my trips abroad. However, i was shocked when told that an original
Canon lithium BP-511A battery costs over a $120 a piece.

A far cry from an OEM version, which costs a mere $30 or less....
And hence my question, are OEMs really safe to use? Will it degrade faster
or cause any damage to my G6 if used over time compared to the originals?

Has any one in the forum been using OEM batteries fine all along?

If it degrades less than 4 times as fast as an original battery, it makes more sense to get the 3rd party battery right?

I bought an OEM battery from Eastgear for my EOS 20D. It lasted as long as
the original battery.

Default Didn't notice much difference with D30

My friend has 3 extra OEM batteries. I borrowed his D30 together with the batteries. Those 3 batteries add up together are still cheaper than 1 original Canon battery. Plus..... 3 batteries can get you go for 3 times more than 1 battery.

On the side line, may I know how much is an OEM 511A battery at Eastgear?

Get third party battery (MegaPower). It got more power than original battery at 1/5th of the price. I've used MegaPower for over a year now and it's still kicking.

Yes for the vendor.

No for the consumer.

Just go for OEM.
