Default Canon SB-E1 Bracket

How does this SB-E1 bracket work?
Can it work with 550EX and ST-E2 wireless transmitter?

How does it compare with those brackets from stroboframe?

Funny you should ask! I just took this today....

Answers: 550EX does not fit! ST-E2 should work fine!

It is not meant to be like a stroboframe. It is an 'L-bracket'. You turn the entire unit. It just gets the flash off to the side. According to Canon...'it removes the harsh unnatural shadows that can appear to one side of the subject when shooting in portrait orientation with camera-mounted flash.'

How effective is this?
When u rotate the cam for portrait mode, most people will have the right hand over the left. That means the flash coming from under... rather unnatural.....
Flash that does not sit right in the centre of the lens axis will produce shadows for sure....

Good points. The weight rests in your left hand when in portrait mode. Still it feels OK. The camera does not slip on the bracket like with my cheapo generic bracket. Hope to test it soon in a model shoot or at the motorshow. A lot of photogs use L-brackets...

This bracket seems very ill designed and nothing more than an expensive version of the L bracket.

Not worth the S$3XX that it's listed at.

Cheers,

Funny, some Canon accessories are under-engineered ...like the CP-E2...a real piece of junk. The SB-B1 bracket is over-engineered and high-priced. Let ya know how much I like it after the motorshow.

Is is because of that silver knot at the left hand side of the L bracket that does not allow the 550EX to fit?

the silver "knob" screws onto the 580EX to hold it in place.
