Default PRO1 or G6

Hi bros,

I've read that the Pro1 is "slow" when focusing in low light. That is subjective right? Currently using a P&S and it take quite a while (2-3 presses on the shutter) before the green box comes out.

I'm more for the Pro1 due to it's wide angle and long zoom. But the lens on the G6 is "faster f2.0-f3.0", the grip is better and has AF assist light.

If I like to take portraits and scenery more than the occasional Aircraft carrier, which will be a better choice? What are my options?

Can anyone share their experiences when using either of these?

Btw, the price diff is about $400 bucks. Pro1 $1430 & G6$1080 at AP.

Thanks for your comments

Perhaps you should consider a used 300D with kit lens since you're prepared to spend more than S$1k?

I have tried out the Pro 1 from my friend. Horrendously slow AF even in daylight.

Not sure abt the G6 though.

I recommend G6 and spend the diff on a ext flash for fill/bounce flash for portraits.

I second what Adam Goi said
Go for 300D

I did consider Pro1 before, luckily I got the 300D instead
My friend has a Pro1 and tried it, too slow for my liking

Yeah minvey, for that reason I sold off my Pro1 and is currently seeking a 300D.
If you're interested, there's a Canon group buy for 300D/20D going on somewhere in CS.

Thanks for the replies.

I did thought of getting the 300B ...black but the thought of lugging around all the accessories kinda put me off. The Pro1 is a very compact cam and travel friendly too...sigh! But I guess the slowness will be a big minus.

Why can't they have a compact, big in features and yet fast cam?....then decisions won't be a headache...

Yup. Thot of it too but the guys at John 3.15 gave me an aghast look and left me wondering what that was all about

Apparently there was an issue with noise when using ISO100 and above.

Any comments?

Get 300D, it's really worth it!
ISO800 on 300D produces less noise than ISO50/ISO100 on Pro1/G6.

All consumer digital cameras will give slow focus in low lighting and noisy quality > ISO 100.

If you know their limitation like avoid using high ISO, any consumer camera can give good quality shots.

Btw, is there much different between the picture quality since Pro1 is 8mp and the 300D 6.3mp? And how big should your CF card be if you buy the 300D?

300D. anyway, the A2 does have pretty quick focussing. hmmm... haha, compared to the rest.

Bought the Pro1 from Daniel mainly for its video function as well as the wide 28mm. Yes, it is noisy even at iSo 50 and slow in focusing. But if u know its limitation, it is a great cam nevertheless.

Picture quality depends very much on the size of the sensor. The basic rule is that the larger the sensor, the less noise (Note "basic"). The 300D's sensor is much larger than the Pro1.

Each JPG from the 300D is about 3MB. 1GB can store around 350 shots. However, if U shoot RAW, each file is about 6MB.
