Default Newbie on a D30

Hi. I am new in DSLR. Bought a used D30. Hope you guys can share your knowledge. I need to know a few things.

Is the Grip BG-ED3 a 'must have'?

Can you guys recommend a cheap 3rd party flash that can be use on the body. BTW I have the Canon 540EZ which only works on manual.

Thanks!!!!

based on ur nickname, i thot u trying to pull a fast one!

the grip, some like me can't live without it. others can't live with it. the grip will give u extra stability when using a long lens. it also provides u a vertical shutter release - ie no 'chicken wings' when shooting in portrait orientation. but, it does add a bit of weight to the cam and some dun like it.

the d30 is a lightweight cam - so, IMO, the grip becomes a must-have for me.

as for flashes, if u looking for a 3rd party flash, the sigma 500 DG ST or DG Super are good choices. the 500 DG ST is almost an equivalent to the canon 420 EX, the 500 Super is the equivalent to 550EX.

Thanks for advice nightwolf75. One more thing, I have been given 2 old batteries, one original and another with the brand A-Station. These batteries do not last. I will be getting some new batteries. Would you recommend those 3rd party batteries? What brand and how much would it cost?

You can try eastgear batteries, cost around $27++ each.

haha... majere2sg replied just b4 i did.

yup! eastgear batts are reputed to be long lasting. usually, batts have a life span of abt 2yrs, depending on usage. other brand u can consider is megapower. think CP is selling $30/batt. its usually found hanging on the racks along the inside of the shop.
