Hi
My Hoya 77mm HMC UV-GUARD filter attached to my EF 300mm f/4 L IS lens with the 1.4X II TC causes parallel lines to appear in the bokeh. Appreciate if anyone can recommend me a better brand of filter that do not have such a problem. Thanks. Joe |

I do use UV filters to protect the front elements of most of my glass. Filters cause some amount of degradation in optical quality, depending on the brand and the type of glass used in it, from my experience B+W is one of the best because it causes very little drop in image quality and is better than Hoya filters in that respect. Just my 2cts. |

Hey Joe,
You got me frightened for a moment with your SMS. I've had a Hoya UV on that lens with no problems. Does your filter do the same to your other lenses? |

From previous experiences.... filters do have adverse effects which degrades image quality.....even using $$$$$ filters does not guarantee you the best quality as compared to "native" front element type of image. Well....just like the Sigma 70-300mm APO MAcro......many complained it to be soft..etc...its because of the front "extra glass ~ filter"... Characteristics of lens change.....with additional material/glass.... rgds, sh |
