I have been reading glowing reviews abt the tamron 28-75mm XR DI lens and some even compare it to the nikkok 28-70mm f2.8 lenswhich easily cost 3k++. May i know how does the tamron one compares to the 50mm prime lens. I know that prime almost always perform better than zoom. Does it differs in this case or are the quality and sharpness comparable. THose who own these 2 lens pls comments. I am sure quite a lot of people are interested in these 2 lens.

I do not have experience with either lenses but I believe that the 50mm will be better than the 28-75mm. The prime is likely to have lower barrel or pincushion distortion, noticeable when photographing buildings. Corner sharpness of the prime is likely to be better at f2.8. At smaller apertures, the differences are reduced.
You can look out for an article in November Popular Photograhy magazine, where a prime and a zoom from each of the 4 major camera manufacturers are compared. |
