Hi,
I own a A80 and according to user manual, this camera can take CF (Type I) card. I had bought 512MB CF card and it works fine. But now as 1GB CF price had fallen a lot, I was thinking to buy one 1 GB CF card to use with this camera. My question are: 1. Can this camera take 1 GB CF card? ( I had check the spec but it mention only Type I, no capacity mentioned.) Anyone had ever tried 1 GB card on this camera? 2. What do you think that if I use 1x1GB card instead of 2x512 MB? I understand the issue of possible lost of all images if 1x1GB card spoit, but I am thinking if in future I upgrade the cemera that need more storage space, at least I can have 1 that is big enough. Any comment? |

1. can. I personally use 1gb of CF. can take around 700 photos, hi res.
2. you would rarely take more than 512mb for one day outing. So, make no diff between 1gb or 512mb. If you would travel for several days, chances are you would bring a mobile digital storage or you would bring more CF cards, so.. again, makes no diff. That's why I get 1GB. |

can, but no point getting the faster cards, cos A80 write speed is slow(i think)
whether or not to get the 1GB, depends how much u shoot i think. if u always go on extended shoots, maybe its a good idea. depends what r ur needs |

I will be travelling to Taipei for 1 week with my family, and I don't have a digital storage. I already have 2x512 MB, and intend to add 1 more. After looking at 1GB's price, I was tempted to go straight to 1 GB CF. |

My bet is that 2x512MB is more than enough for your 1 week trip.
take 1/2 day fly there, 1/2 day fly back, effectively only 6 days. & not every minute there's something to shoot on a packaged tour. If I'm u, I'll be more worried about the battery life. But since it uses AA, shouldn't be a prob also. No point getting the1GB now if u don't need it, as prices wil lalways drop. |

whitesand,
another way is to constantly review your pictures, just retain the best and also ask around for photo developing shops where u can burn ur images out on to CDs. erm, thinkk u shd save on the CF cards and spend them on FOOOOOOD in taiwan! (makes my mouth water!!!) |

in SLS...to get the cheapest CF is usually LASER or BESTBARGAIN ....5th n 4th flr respectivitly....the brand is Kingston....i believe the current market for cheapest would be kingston....sandisk is 10-20 bucks more... not worth it if ur using A series... alternative way would be renting a Xdrive... if im not wrong some guys in CS are doing that... renting a 6gb xdrive2 for a week at $30?
Do a search... Cheers! bon voyage for ur trip |

Hi,
Just wonder what is the size to use ? in order to have a good print in 4R in photo develop shops. So by using the right size to get the max out of CF cards. 1. 2272x1704 2. 1600x1200 or 3. 1024x768 |

i believe that if u ONLY plan to develop till 4R and wanna max ur CF cards, then 1024x768 is good enuff
to play safe in case u wanna blow up or do editing, better go with 1600x1200 erm, i think also depends wat u shoot, if u shoot thiings with lots of details, think the higher res is better... i not too sure myself, wait for some expert come advise...sorry |

to me you already spend few hundred to buy your camera why save the 60-70 for a 512MB CF card and shoot on 1024x768 to save space .... come on if you are just going to shoot 1024x768 you should save your money in the first place and buy a 1 Megapixel camera. btw to answer your question too shoot on max so you have a bigger photo to play with in ps and in case if you need to crop your photo you will still be able to get a high resolution photo to develop sorry if i offened anyone but thats just what i feel btw the price to a high speed and low speed cf card is getting closer and if you are planing to upgrade to DSLR go get a a fast card if not get a cheap card will do ![]() |
