Currently own a good ol' Canon Powershot A40. Thinking of upgrading to something better. What I have in mind is the G6 and the PS Pro1. Any advice?

Do some research on sensor size in the digicams vs DLSRs. The G6 has a 7.1 Megapixel 1/1.8" CCD imaging sensor.... The Canon PS Pro1 has a 2/3" CCD imaging sensor. The images from those small sensors are very noisey at 200ISO and above.
Unless you really don't care about image quality...you are better off going straight to a Canon 300D, 10D, or 20D. ![]() |

Getting a DSLR is an over-kill cause u will need to invest in the lenses. Image noise is a bonus, not a prerequisite. That said, why not go down to ur favourite camera shop and have a live experience with the cam of ur choice then decide? Nothing beats hands-on experience! What others say is immaterial. Just ask urself what u want out of the cam. my 2 cents only. |

btw, i think F828, Pro1 & the nikon 8700 & 8800 series (i think) are of the same line... so try those few & feel which is better. personally, i like my F828 becos of the swivel lens & the nightshot/nightframe feature.

On the budget wise, if you have the $$ for the Pro1, might as well go all the way and aim for the 300D or the 10D. There you have a unlimted choices of upgrade options when it comes to lenses and stuff.... But generally, the exact choice will depend on what you want to shoot... There are plenty of upgraders in the forum's WTS, that you can consider. It is no shame to be using pre-own stuff. |

What's your budget?
You may want to cut the chase and just get a used 300D with the kit lens. ![]() |

1. Minolta A1 - Excellent value for money for the features it offers. OR 2. Minolta A2 / Olympus C-8080 if you really need 8MP. ( The higher the MP, you need bigger CF cards and faster PC to handle the image ) If you prefer compact cameras, the newer Canon A or S series OR Fuji 810. Go to a shop, try out and decide which suits you most. As for picture quality they are all very good. Good luck |

I didn't want a 300D because I heard that even after buying the body alone you still need lenses and stuff and it could still cost a whole lot more. Thanks for everything guys!
