Default Comparing Kit lens and VR.....?

Hi all i am thinking of switching the kit lens which is the 18-70mm to the 24-120 VR. but dunno whether this is a wise choice to change.

So i need some advice whether should i sell the kit lens away and get the VR ???

many thanks

You would lose a lot of your wideangle, which to me is a no-no.

What's wrong with your kit lens anyway?

i think u will find most people advising you not to. Reason is two-fold. 1st the kit lens is pretty useful so no real need to upgrade. 2nd, the 24-120 is not as great as you thought.. i heard the images are quite soft.

If you really want to "upgrade", try the 18-55mm instead.

I have the 24-120 VR and you need to set it to F9 and above to
get sharp images which then you lose the VR usefulness that you
paid for..

You need tobe VERY CAREFUL with the kit lens.. especially
zomming in and out very gently because the stupid kit
lens breathes AIR..

In mine all the dust got sucked into the D70 and the lens mount
area.. Nik SG took 2 weeks to strip it open and clean it out..
The service of this lens would be very slow as the engineer showed
me the lens parts exploded view, too many small screws..

If you do buy a lens pls try to buy one that is SEALED and does
not breath air..

My kit lens still has a large piece of dirt inside that appears now and then
very annoying. I am going to use filtered compress air to get it out
when I chance upon it ..

kit lens is nice... but abit too short for me la... initially intended to change to 24-120 VR but too many negative comments on it. so now, i am considering sigma 24-135 or tamron 24-135 coupled with 12-24mm WA...

120/135 from 70 is not a significant difference. get a tele like 70-300.

i've heard that the pic is soft for the VR too from many people too. guess i'll stick to the kit lens instead. will be getting a WA zoom instead.

As far as I know, no (D)SLR lens is sealed or air-tight.
