What makes you say this? Do you actually have the adapter and FX/DX lenses? I have, and according to my tests the V1 is as fast as the D300s and the possibly even the D800 with the same lens and under identical conditions. It is also extremely accurate. OK, only the center AF area works, but that's the only real limitation when modern lenses are used. Admittedly, I don't have the V2 and that 70-200/4 lens, but I have the V1 and the 50/1.4G, 60/2.8G micro, 105/2.8GVR micro, 24-120/4, 70-300GVR and had even the 35/1.8GDX and the 16-85GDX lenses together with the D300s, now I have the D800. I don't expect the V2 and that 70-200/4 to be any worse than my lenses concerning the AF with the adapter, and I don't expect the V2 to be worse than the V1 in this respect.

What's your experience with the system?

I could give him the prices in Sweden, but I don't think that would help him.
I don't see any valuable information in your reply. Anyway, how do you know he means the 30-110mm? Maybe he means the 10-100mm lens. It's pointless to guess what he means.

lol, as you said yourself only the center point is working and therefore it's not as good as a native lens in all situations and that was his question.

    ...hmm

...perhaps you could have asked which one he meant. Or...

...could have told the price of both. Or...

Mine was just an intelligent guess (people often make mistakes when they mean the 30-110), but saying what you said was totally pointless.

No. At least he is smart enough to understand the meaning and to tell us which lens he means.

The question was: "Will the AF with adapter be just as good?"

Good AF for me is about speed and accuracy. But you made a guess, so your guess is as good as mine. I gave information, you just guessed what he wanted to know. I let him figure it out from my experience and my message what he means by "good AF".

BTW, I see you don't have this system at all, but you seem to have some strong opinions about it.

We are talking about the Nikon 1 system here and the obvious guess is he meant exactly that. I think you should spend some time reading this thread before talking bs. It's obvious you didn't.

OK... I think that is enough arguing on the rhetoric.

From my experience, with V2 mounted on the FT-1, the 70-200/4 have problems acquiring any focus lock in low light conditions from 130mm-200mm. And when I say low light, I meant the lighting in Funan Food Junction. With the 70-200/2.8vrII attached, it focuses fine.

Only the center focus point is available for use with the FT-1. And continuous focusing (AF-C) is not availabe when using the FT-1.

So, my take is: The AF with adapter is not as good. Is it usable? Yes, but you need to know which lenses will work well with it and in what lighting conditions you require.

Many thanks to those who have responded to my post.

I am now using a few Nikkor ais lenses on my NEX 5N. Recently, I began shooting birds from low cherry trees and got the bug. My 5N + 200mmf4 lens weigh in at 600gm. When I felt that 200mm was still too short, I bought a 300f4.5 that weighs in a 710gm. I can only focus manually and have been wishing there is an AF system out there that's small and light for an old man. Do I need lightning fast AF, no, but accuracy, yes. I will use the system mostly in bright sunshine. Centre point AF is good enough, because that's all I know anyway. Thus, I am now looking at 2 alternatives, EM-5 plus Pana 100-300 or V2 + Adapter + 70-200f4 VR.

I will like to thank Olyflyer and daredevil123 for giving me more detailed explanation. I will test out both systems soon.

You might as well don't answer. So there isn't. Thanks for being helpful.

Well, anyone who knows the prices of FT1 and 30-110mm?

It is your answer that is pointless, that is of no value. You could say there is a this and a that. But pointless as it stands.

I am probably too dumb for you. No need to answer.

Of course. The 70-200/2.8 is a stops faster, so it is of no surprise that it is better. You are comparing apples and oranges, two different lenses.

It works well with all my lenses. Maybe the 70-200/4 is an exception, I don't know. Maybe that lens is not that great on other cameras either. My lenses work just fine, but like I have also said, there are limitations in the functionality. All the limitations are listed here:

Anthony was asking the question with regards to the 70-200/4 specifically. And since the 70-200/4 autofocuses fine on D7000, D600, D800, but not on the V2+FT1... Pretty much tells you the AF of the V2+FT1 is not as good as DSLRs.

But the 70-200/4 performs sweetly on the DSLRs mentioned.

Thanks for showing that. My collection is mostly Ai and AFD lenses, with a few AFS, fast lenses (f2.8) up to 105mm, and the long lenses are f5.6. Looks like AF with FT1 is probably going to be a hit and miss thing.

AF with the FT-1 is only possible with lenses with AF motors built in.
AF assist indication is available with all the "D" lenses, but of course, because those don't have AF motors, you must focus manually, but the focus should not be hit and miss because the focus indicator is very accurate. With Ai lenses you must focus manually but wide open, after that you must stop down the lens if necessary.

Too bad nobody makes chipped adapters which fake a digital lens. I believe that it should be quite easy to make one, as I have already done a similar thing for Olympus FT back in 2006, before the first chipped adapters hit the market.

You're welcome. I am glad that the link helps you. Yes, I believe there is everything you might want to know about the FT-1 but in case you want to know something you can't find, just ask. Don't worry about the slight confusion, I definitely don't mind.
