My current trinity:
17-35 f/2.8 50 f/1.8 70-200 VR f/2.8 Skipped the 28-70 f/2.8 .... can't find a purpose for it (for now) the 50mm can cover pretty much what's between 35 and 70. Just need to move either closer or away from the subject ![]()

I find that a good measure of the "trinity" for prime lenses on a nikon digital body would be:
-14mm f/2.8 (widest angle coverage of 21mm) -28mm f/1.4 (low light shooting, 42mm is just short of 50mm coverage) -85mm f/1.4 (simply fantastic lens) I know of photojournalists in iraq and afghanistan who switched to these lens combinations as the amount of dust and sand that got into the zoom mechanism of the 17-35 and 70-200 rendered the lenses difficult to use. of course.. the prices of these prime combinations are comparable to their zoom counterparts... ![]() |
