Ok, I'm blur like sotong on Nikon AF-S zoom trinity, but have a question ... when were they introduced ? Reason I'm asking is because 2 of them probably replaced others that were in the trinity :

AF-S 17-35 : replaced AF-D 20-35, right ? But was it (20-35) considered a lens worthy of being considered for that status, if it was coined then ?

AF-S 28-70 : replaced AF-D 35-70 ... but was the latter ever considered part of the "trinity" ?

AF-S 70-200 : replaced AF-S 80-200 ... same question as the 35-70.

I guess what I'm really asking is whether anyone recalls when this term "trinity" was coined, as referring to Nikon's high-end zooms (or any others in the lineup).

Equipment measurebating, I know, but these fundamental existentialist questions crop up while I'm baby-sitting my son who's quietly sleeping next to me ...

PS. sorry, can't count either ... it's more than one question

AF-S 17-35mm f/2.8D IF-ED was supposingly to be replaced by the AF-S DX 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED, which is also priced lower but somehow, the 17-35 remains defiant! A lot of nikon users still prefers the 17-35!

The AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF ED is new by the way. Supposed to replace the AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8D IF-ED. For your information, the AF 80-200mm f/2.8D ED is still selling well despite the introduction of two replacement, due to the extremely affordable price.
