Default nikon em

currently using a v old nikon cam.. Nikon EM.. its a manual focus cam with only three modes: bulb, auto, m90..

been shooting with it for quite some time and just realised that i can actually change the screen from a focus screen(2 semi circles in the middle) to a grid screen.. may i know wats the difference between the 2 types of screen? isit 2 diff types of metering?

so how much roughly wud tat cost if i were to change from a focus screen to a grid screen?

TIA!

The grid screen should not affect your metering. It simply has lines etched into the glass to assist you in maintaining straight and level alignment with your subject, be it the horizon in landscapes or in architecture.

If the grid screen has no split prism to aid in focusing(the two semi-circles in the centre), then you will have to use the whole image to ensure a sharp focus. Some people prefer this as split prisms have their disadvantages.
