Hello... this is Nikon you're talking about. Not Canon. The life cycle is thereabouts 2-4 years.

Btw, D70 already incorporated a lot of Nikon's latest technologies already. Until there is a breakthrough and significant improvement over current technology, there's no need for a replacement.

Hi benleez, how are you? Remember me?

AFAIK, there is no replacement for D70 at this moment.
Like Espn have said, Nikon DSLR life cycle is reasonably long (2~4 yrs).
Should there be replacement, it would have been annouce during the Photokina 2004 Show.

New products introduce during the Photokina are Nikon 8800 (replacement for Nikon 8700) and Nikon 8400 (replacement for Nikon 5400).

What I predict is the possibilities of Nikon D100's replacement in March 2005.
8 megapixel, 2inch LCD and so on.......

Are you sure FourThirds is gaining popularity ? I thought FourThird is H.I.S.T.O.R.Y ?

i am wondering do i really need a DSLR... hehehe... but would hope to get 1... anyway, since Nikon never even say anything about the D100 replacement, i think it would be a hell lot of time when something like that would even be out in the market... (compare with a canon announce & nxt minute in the market...)

Nope.. unlikely. Nikon's share of the market is the same as Canon's. The 'minor' players are the ones who need to pool their resources together to make their 'standards' going.

Actually me no need 2" LCD. I'd prefer a higher speed sync like 1/500 and best if it's 5fps. I really need these. 8MP is good though

Why would a "new" camera need a replacement?

May I ask where did you get this info from?

Note : this is not a confrontational question - I'm just asking because I'm interested to know.

I was at B & H Photo Video in New York (9th Ave, 34th St) a while ago and talked to the customer service guys over there.

More or less, Nikon will introduce an equivalent to the Canon 20D. And its more likely to be called a D90, rather than a "D200". Same specs, 5 fps, 8mpx, DX sensor and of course, vertical grip compatibility.

Most likely to be announced in Febuary next year. Then again, I could wrong on all these details. After all, Nikon is known to be very protective on information about future products.

D70 is still selling like HOT CAKE now, so can't see the reason need an upgrade

D100 sale is slow, and most say D70 is just as good at lower price. So, most likely we are going to see a D100 replacement soon, since it is quite an old model now and Nikon must do something to catch up with the market of Canon 20D, a prosumer model (I judge D70 as consumer model at the moment, although not really that consumeable by most).

Since Canon come out with 1Ds, so maybe Nikon will FORCE to produce a full frame DSLR soon when they have the technology (read CCD) available. Just a wild guess.

I just hope that price of S3 Pro will be more realistic (less than S$3k) when it hits the market. Guess this will only happen if Nikon come out with a D100 replacement (say 8MP) and price much lower than the S3 Pro.

Why should the replacement win 20D? Hehehe... what makes you think the D100 cannot win 20D? Old model is true and the life cycle is about up (2~4 yrs). But it as well proven itself from D60->10D->20D.

not to say win lah...but frankly, 99% of the market will FEEL that newer model is definitely better, and 8MP is definitely nicer to have as compare to 6MP. That's why so many upgrade from 10D to 20D

Like I said before, if no replacement for D100, that very few people will buy it as D70 is just too attractive at below S$2k (as compare to D100 S$2.6k). Nikon must punch in some extra things in the new D100 replacement to justify the price different, and also attracts those who plan to buy/start out photography with a DSLR

At one time, I thought a Full-frame dSLR would be nice. Actually, the DX format is great if you get the same sharpness, resolution and if you do not need to print to poster size. Apart from the cost of the FF, the DX format gives you longer tele-lenses, which is wonderful for those who loves teles. Now, I am fully convinced that the DX format is the way to go and it is here to say. Also, in all electronics, small is sexy, efficient and fast.
