Yes it is quite a technological achievement, but it speaks more of the way people elsewhere are doing things. Looking at this, i can't help but feel there is a new world order rising out there, and sg will never be part of it.

Just wonder what was his cost for materials, not counting time cost, to send this fella into space?

Interesting to note that video cameras from Flip and GoPro are being used to film to footage.

IIRC, real-time downlink capability for live ascent imagery broadcast from onboard NASA space shuttles was captured through a Commercially available Off-The-Shelf (COTS) Sony XC-999 video camera with the data encoded in NTSC and frequency modulated (FM) on a carrier of 2272.50 MHz before being transmitted through a pair of 10 watt S-band antennas.

Plenty of attempts from amateur rocketeers to be the first to clinch The Carmack Prize, some have even go up a notch such as the Copenhagen Suborbitals organization and their venture at amateur manned spaceflight with HEAT 1X Tycho Brahe rockets.

Probably somewhere between the four to five digits range in USD as an estimate based on the Bill of Materials (BoM) alone though it is apparent Derek Deville did received some form of corporate sponsorship.

In comparison, the largest and most powerful amateur rocket, the HEAT 1X Tycho Brahe from Copenhagen Suborbitals (as referenced to in my previous posting) cost an approximate $300,000 in Danish Krone (DKK) or $55,323 in USD.

I'm both amazed and inspired in their mission to be the fourth nation to launch a human beyond the Karman Line and on how their operations are conducted on such a professional level despite being only a mere 22 man non-profit organisation releasing their projects through the public domain for all.

Kind of WOLS but a Reliant Robin space shuttle?

Seems kind of a expensive conversion though.

Video tags indicated that the Animal Motor Works (AWM) N2801 Skidmark motor is used. A 48" N Class motor no longer produce by AWM.

Just to add: On the other end if the spectrum, there is the nuclear tipped Nike Sprint Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM). Velocity of Mach 10 in 5 Seconds from launch with an acceleration force of 100 g, it was only in operational service for less than half a year.

NK Kim to his engineers: "If these treacherous, uncivilized, immoral and stupid Americans can do it, we certainly can too. All you watch the Youtube videos, copy but make sure everything times 10 then can already! We will have a blast! And the world will know!"

    2100 into amateur model rocketry?

Used to provide Radio Frequency (RF) acquisition / tracking along witth ground-based telemetry downlink support for meteorological sounding rockets in a short stint back in the days before bulky GPS receivers were wildly available to civilians and even so Selective Availability (SA) intentionally degrade accuracy to plus or minus a hundred meter or so.
