Nikon products (official and gray) will certainly be cheaper in China than in Singapore for several reasons. GST is one, more gray market stuff is another. I wouldn't recommend buying Gray units from the Mainland, though. This is just a personal thing for me. If you intend to buy Nikon official products, there shouldn't be any problems. If you do buy unofficial goods there, do be carefull and check very, very, very carefully (if you know what I mean ). Hongkong is another story entirely. If you intend to buy expensive camera items, whether official, parallel or gray, HK would be a better option than the Mainland.cheers, bcoolboy |

China is definitely heaps cheaper than Singapore, that's for sure. The price difference for a VR 70-200mm can buy you the return ticket liao
But knowing the price is one thing. Finding the place is another. Last week I couldn't find the place at all! Even with the full address! I'm going Beijing again to try my luck in Dec To complete my trinity collection ![]()

If you are going to Beijing, then try this place
北京市宣武区马连道路11号4层北10号(马连道茶城4层北10号)

I bought my Sandisk 512 MB CF in Beijing for S$80. I checked out at Changi retailing for S$122 3 months ago, and S$135 before I left for Beijing!
I was talking to the shop guy about why the price differences is so big. He was explaining to me that the if the profit is S$100 for nikon lense, they are already very happy liao. To them, the profit translate to RMB480 which is slightly under the salesman's 1/2 monthly salaray. So by selling two 17-35 heh heh... the salesman's salary is covered liao. And the market is much bigger than Singapore, so they can sell more 17-35 per month as compared to Singapore. ![]()

Actually buying in China is a whole lot more straight forward and pleasent compared to many of the shops in Singapore. I used to have the mentality all salesmen in China are crooks, especially camera salesmen. Well it so happens I was ignorant. After I have checked the gear throughly and was completely satisfied. They'll get the 'sifu' to check the gear in even greater details to make sure I didn't walk out with a lemon. This seemed to happen very often too, not just one shop in particular.
Warning. No credit cards though. Make sure you have cash. |

my suggestion is to buy in Singapore. The China import tax is much higher than Singapore and you would end up paying at a min 20% more.
