    Default eBay charges

Recently, i got a friend to buy a lens from eBay from the States.

The receipt came to about US$300.($270 plus $30 shipping charge and date of receipt is 9 Sep 2011)

When I check the bill, I was charged Sing$425.

How does ebay compute the cost?

    Thanks

depends in the payment mode... if paypal, then paypal will have its own exchange rate which usually is higher than the standard exchange rate... but 425/300 = 1.41 seems abit high... the bill should have a breakdown of the cost... USD to how much S$ etc...

    USD$300.00 x 1.32(rate) x 1.07(GST) = S$425

Initially i also thought GST but its just fall below 400 so should not have GST... 425/1.07 = S$397... unless they round up and charge u GST but GST usually is charge separately AFAIK...

    I have been using Paypal. I thought it's 1 SGD = 0.72-0.74 USD..
Or in other words, 1 USD = 1.31-1.34 SGD..

Given the currency exchange now. This should be the rate for Paypal.

ebay got charges for buying meh? I always thought only seller need to pay ebay. If you check out with paypal, the price you pay is only the (ebay price*exchange rate). 9th sep the rates should be still quite good, probably around 1.25.

If you using Paypal for your purchased, please check paypal account for the transaction detail.

Should display all the exchanged rate from USD into SGD. If any handling fee, it will stated there too.

    Dear all,

    Thanks for all the input.

On 9 Sep, the rate is 1.25.. I should be paying $375 instead but now $50 more.

I use VISA from a local bank, do they charge admin/handling fees...?

    Dear all,

    Thank you for the feedbacks.

I checked the receipt again and the order was placed on 14 Sep instead although I told him to do on the 9 Sep.

The exchange rate must have gone up to 1.4.

Thank you for all the help!
