Before the final zipline, participants had to abseil from the top of the Esplanade to a safe "launching" area where they can start their wild, wet rush.

just a note, the first photo was shot purposely with underexposure to get the b/w effect. i believe i used the max shutter speed of 1/4000 on my 10D to get that, but i have no idea how come there's the light fall-off effect at the top right. in fact, i thought i saw that effect through the viewfinder, that's why i took it.
thanks for the compliments, i'll try to see if i have anything worth posting up online or not... ![]() by the way, the 4th shot was a close crop from a photo probably 3 times the area that you see. |

refreshing to see someone using his camera to achieve an effect. instead of always relying on photoshop to ps the life out of a photo. ![]() |

Here are the other photos!
"Right please!" After scaling Jelutong Tower in the Central Catchment area and answering a trivia question, participants are guided by NParks officials to make their way back to the Rifle Range Road area to pick up their bicycles and cycle over to the Dairy Farm race checkpoint, as part of the Action Asia Challenge adventure race held on 24th October 2004. Rockwall abseiling was one of the many skill courses made even harder by the slippery rockface, resulting from continuous rainfall over the past week, at the Dairy Farm race checkpoint. Participants taking their time to work out the problems with their bicycles as they await their turn for the rockwall abseiling station at the Dairy Farm rock wall. Salomon is a major sponsor of the event, and is fairly popular with adventure racers. Tired, but happy - two ladies in the Action Asia Challenge race smiling for the camera, despite having gone though an ardous crosscountry cycling leg as well as a rockwall abseiling station. Reach out - after being stopped by the water after the zipline at the Esplanade, a tired participant grimaces as he reaches for the rope so there can be enough slack in the rope to get himself released from the zipline by race officials in kayaks. |

Against the infamous "bug-eye" dome structure of the Esplanade, the two members of a team shows a momumental moment in Singapore sports - having cleared various red tape in the inaugural leg of the Action Asia Challenge to be held in Singapore. Hitting the water at over 30kph coming off a zipline is a pain inducing experience not to be forgotten, especially for those with less-than-perfect landings. All smiles as the final obstacle of a zipline is cleared without problems for this participant. The distinctive look of the Esplanade roof creates a mystical abstract of shapes and colours at the Action Asia Challenge. |
