Thread: Nikon announced new mirrorless cameras - J1 and V1

A bit short of MP....only 10MP. So cannot perform at high ISO?

Panasonic now at 16MP & Sony at 24MP.

If I am not wrong, ISO performance is based on sensor size not MP.:-)

I was hoping for something that could actually compete with the Sony NEX7. Something that offers manual controls like the P7100.

The marketing team will have their work cut for them since this product is entering a very saturated market, but offers little in terms of advantages over the established competition.

If I aint wrong NEX cameras have APS-C size sensor. On a side note, 2.7x crop is something discouraging..

Exactly. Sony is the the clear winner now, considering the rate they are gaining market share. Nikon's EVIL could potentially be another 'Coolpix' case.

Sony is not a clear winner.
Small, compact and fast primes are just not there.
Good as a 'sensor platform' for other brand lenses with MF, but not that great with its own lenses.

Too bad Nikon decided not to share in the m4/3 cake and went off with a 2.7x crop.
Would have been great if they joined m4/3 and consumers would then have a larger pool of body/lens choices.

Is the FT1 an SLT design? Or a flip-mirror? Or is it just a glorified extension tube?

    Blardy hell! 2.7 crop factor!!!

Might as well Nikon don't join in the mirrorless competition! Let see Canon is as dump as Nikon.

    EVIL system woh.......

I wouldn't write of Nikon quite yet. Let's see what the sample pics look like. I'd bet that they are superb given Nikon's heritage. The SLR world is dominated by Canon and Nikon. With this, one of the "majors" is moving into EVIL and the space is getting very crowded. With the state of the art NEXs, Pentax's super small offering and now Nikon (not even counting Ricoh, Samsung etc), this will definitely eat into M43's market share, just when their lens line is maturing.

    Partially.

The APSC sensors of today can match or even beat the quality of FF of yesteryears. So it more of how it is being designed and fabricated.

I'm excited about a few things:

    1) very small and light
    2) EXPEED 3 processor
    3) Backward compatible with Nikon F lenses

Certainly, this thing will not (and is not designed to) replace standard DSLRs. But what I don't know is the pricing. At the right price, say about S$500 - $600, coming in well below the EP3, I will be very interested - this can potentially replace existing mid-range point and shoots.

Not cheap. In US, the J1 with 10-30mm kit is going to be sold at us$649 and V1 will retail at us$899. That would be ard sgd1k and 1.2k.

I certainly hope the IQ justify for that pricing.

Looks like for ultra-wide get FF... for ultra-zoom, get V1... right?

Yeah a bit over priced considering the sensor size and other competing products...

2.7x crop factor is too small compared to other mirrorless systems.

I couldnt sleep when Gf1, Pen, Nex and X100 were announced despite their hefty price at that time.

With this new system, seriously in terms of looks and specs do not really wow me.

Coming late into market may not necessary be always at advantage. At least for market nowadays, who would want to spend more than 1k for a consumer grade camera.

Panny and Oly has enjoyed the 3yrs headstart of high profit margins and even their latest recent products do not exceed 1.2k.

I guess nikon sgp must really price it right. Please dun follow pentax q pricing.
