SACHS, a world-class brand in motorsports suspension systems invited several Singapore car clubs, Toyota VIOS, Peugeot, Ford, VW & Alfa Romeo to showcase technical improvements of using its sports suspensions...
2 representatives from each car club with & without a sachs suspension kit powered through a slalom course to highlight the differences in handling, braking & body roll... Followed by an 'Initial-D' inspired contest to test the skills of a driver to go thru the slalom course and minimize the amount of water spillage from a cup of water attached to the top of the car... Looks like it's very hip to join car clubs nowadays. But it gets really messy.
Back in year 2000-2001, Singapore Toyota Club meetups only had some 10 cars, and SHC with 40-50 cars were already considered ![]() |

Vios pics removed instead, no time to paint over the numbers... lol, was looking to get some feedback on my techniques...
Didn't expect the thread to turn into chit-chat, ![]() Guess there aren't many avid car photographers on Clubsnap? |

If you want feedback, your panning could do with a lower shutter speed, insufficient blur (cluttered background doesn't help too). You can play with rear curtain sync too since weather probably was not very bright. But of course don't flash when the driver is coming head on and can be affected lar, and try to avoid reflection of the flash. A short moment after the car passed you would be good. cool, thanks... didn't think rear curtain sync would work at all for that range...got any samples to share?
I actually have a problem with the shutter speed, anything less than 1/80 and the whole image is blurred. Would VR be necessary? Wish I could shoot kallang rallies, only have the d70 for 2 months now ![]() |

Think they still have a few pieces left in Consumer's corner, it can be useful sometimes. I think you were still shooting in overcast conditions, still mangeable with a power enough flash like SB-800. Well i don't have any rear curtain sync samples online but this is done by another CSer. http://forums.clubsnap.org/showthread.php?t=90125 Basically, you can portray a good sense of motion by blurring the car and rims but still maintain a degree of detail with the flash. The rims (esp white or high power silver against dark wheel well or gun-metal against big rotors) look good with this technique, blurred but you can still make out details. No problems with affecting the drivers if you flash when they are driving past you by the side, I kena flashed before and it didn't bother me. Shutter speed, nah....VR is an expensive luxury. Nikon's range is not extensive too. You can use a tripod with a regular ballhead, not need to have pan base too. Just work with the ball loosened enough. This is 1/125 @ 500mm. http://www.pbase.com/f1powerboat/ima...23858/original For F1 boats where top whack is high, i guess 1/125 will work. For your slaloms, perhaps 1/60? Yeah, no more rallies, so sad. I am much better equipped nowadays |

Well, I think I still need to improve on my panning skills before I buy more equipment, most of the pics here were cropped...
Hard to keep up with the object using a tripod... I actually did the F1 powerboats pretty easy, just decided to show the other fotos first ![]() |
