    Default Pentax K1000

    Need advice on Pentex camera.

    1) I have a Pentax K1000 (metering not working). Can it still take photos (judge EV myself) ?

    2) What is the price range of Pentax mount lens, say 20mm, 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm .

    Thanks.

Ok ok, here I come (although I use other cameras too).

    What is wrong wif your meter? Normally shd be a easy fix. Got get the SMC-A 50mm f1.7 it is amoung the best I bot mine around USD10.50, I got a SMC-M 35mm f2.8 I bot at SGD25, my SMC-M 28mm f3.5 is USD51 and SMC-M 135mm f3.5 at USD35.

Why f3.5 version? It is supposely cheaper then f2.8 when new but it has been proven to be better then the f2.8 and now harder to get then the f2.8 and more expensive.

SMC-M 28mm f3.5 normally sell in the range of USD35-50. Yes, I am a bargain hunter.

If the camera is battery operated (electronic shutter), then it cannot work.
If it is purely mechnical shutter, it should able to work without any metering (judge by your own).

Have you tried using it even without batteries? Try cocking & pressing the shutter button. If its works, does it answer your question?

The K1000 will work fine without it's internal meter. The battery operates the meter only, not the camera functions.

An external meter should be fine. Even a used selenium cell (one that uses no batteries) should work.

It will still take pictures. I started photography on a K1000 with a broken meter too

Thanks guys, just run through 1 roll, will collect the slides tomorrow. Hoping the shuttle still works (still accurate).
