Thread: Questions about Nikon 5100 body + Sigma 10-20mm + Nikkor 50mm f1.8G

    Default Questions about Nikon 5100 body + Sigma 10-20mm + Nikkor 50mm f1.8G

    I'm planning to get Nikon 5100 body only + Sigma 10-20mm + Nikkor 50mm f1.8G.

Thinking this will give me ability to shoot portrait (50mm) and landscape (10-20mm).

    1) Does Sigma 10-20mm auto-focus when mounted on a Nikon 5100 body?

    2) This will mean I won't have the focal range from 21mm to 49mm and 50mm above. Is it that a bad limitation?

    1) Yes Sigma 10-20mm does auto-focus on Nikon D5100, can consider the Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 for UWA Too..
    2) Yes.. to me personally is quite a limitation.. why not get a 2nd lens 18-55mm or 18-105mm...

Depending on what you want to shoot and only you know if you will face with a great limitation without 21mm to 49mm range. Actually many photographers out there are using only 50mm lens exclusively. And yes, as Jas had stated Sigma 10-20mm lens can autofocus in D5100 camera. Maybe you should rent the lens first and tests for a few days to see which one suits you better.

Just as a note: Tokina 11-16mm f2.8 cannot autofocus on a D5100 camera (if I am not mistaken).
I am not a photographer, just someone who happened to have a couple of cameras.

Why don't you buy the D5100 kit and then the extra 2 lens? The 18-55mm kit lens will come in handy. ^^

skipping 18-55mm will save me a few dollars.. and from what I know a lot of people willing to let go of their 18-55mm so it's hard to sell yet easy to buy 2nd hand

Thanks for all the info guys! Im leaning more on Sigma 10-20mm coz its cheaper.. and dont really need bigger aperture for landscape.
