No lah. Like I said not my pix. Think a foreign one probably near to somewhere that snow often I guess. I check googles and indeed there are white squirrels.
In Singapore I think there are 4 species of squirrels (foto from web). Plantain Squirrel Callosciurus notatus This is the common one we frequently saw. Brown with a red belly and a black stripe on each side. Moves around with a single chips, each accompanied by a vigorous flourish of the tail. Cream-Coloured Giant Squirrel Ratufa affinis (Endangered) - - One of the largest squirrels in the world. The giant squirrel was first discovered by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1819, who said it was 'abundantly present in the woods'.They are so rare that there is no single photograph of them in the wild. Habitat: Forest habitats such as Central Catchment Area and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. Estimated population of not more than 10 individuals left. ![]() Horsfield's Flying Squirrel Iomys horsfieldi (Endangered) http://www.angelfire.com/fl/scalisti/iomys.jpg This squirrel was first discovered in Singapore in 1925 in Kranji and Bukit Timah. All flying squirrels are nocturnal. When they jump, all four limbs are extended to stretch the membrane of skin between them. Thus they are able to glide for long distance. Habitat: Forest habitats such as Bukit Timah Nature Reserve where large trees become a crucial part of its existence. A pair was sighted in Nee Soon Swamp Forest in 1995. RED CHEEKED FLYING SQUIRREL Hylopetes spadiceus (Endangered) http://www.angelfire.com/fl/scalisti...drufigenis.jpg This small flying squirrel was first recorded in Singapore in 1996. So far, it is known only from the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve. This species is active at night and spends the day sleeping in holes made into the trunks of large rainforest trees. Other than that, not much info. known ![]() Last edited by whoelse; 15th March 2005 at 12:38 AM. |
