hi!
has anyone tried using a Holga 120 with B&W film b4? apart from the standard light leaks and soft images, is there any other effects to the pics? i'm toying with the idea of getting a holga 120 to masak-masak. ![]()

hi sathea!
nice! so, based one ur experience with the holga, is it possible to take 'normal' pics (if there's such a thing with holgas!)? i went onto lomography.com, and saw they have this new colour flash holga (built-in flash with colour gelatin pieces). thot of getting this one to shoot b&w with it. btw - perly. would u happen to have this color flash holga?

i'm using the holga with the glass lens. get the version with the plastic lens if you want the more 'lomo' effect. try not to the the version with the built in flash. i heard that if the flash fails, you can't use the camera anymore. whereas for the version without flash, you can just attach a flash unit on top of it.

i've been browsing the holga galleries online. one thing every holga user all say is just shoot and hope for the best! sathea, where to find the glass lens version? i checked on yahoo! and they seem to be all plastic lens.

perly has the woca... bought mine from him... actually holgas are like 4D, buy, shoot, hope...
i ran two rolls in low light and voila! mine has NO light leaks of any kind w/o any mods... have since flocked the interior and "enlarged" the aperture though.. yet to try out after the mods... |

the naming convention is like this:
120S is the plastic lens version 120G is the glass lens version if there is flash the name will have a F, eg 120SF, 120GF the default mask for holga is the 645, to shoot 6*6 u can either: get the 6*6 mask or take out the mask, apply some gaffer/3m/pvc tape along the film guides and use as 6*6, note that it is recommended that you insert a piece of cardboard or something hard on the back plate, acting like a pressure plate on TLRs, to retain the tauntness of the film... hope this helps.... |

and on top of that there are the new versions with the "N", e.g. 120GN or 120SN.
new versions have a factory buit-in bulb function. but you can always modify your existing 120S (holga) or 120G (woca) to have bulb function. got two of my holgas from perly, and did some modifications to one of them. haven't done the bulb mod yet, but that's in the works when i've got the time. |

Nightwolf75,
There is a exhibition going on at Objectifs with pics shot with the Holga cam. Drop down there if you have the time. I believe they also have some Holga for sale. |

you can shoot the camera this way using the modifed mask and get 6x6 negatives. to make things look a bit more 'professional', i use some black construction paper to make a new baffles around the modified frame to give me a 6x6 format. |

I got a woca. It's quite solid actually, no light leaks even though I've dropped it once on a concrete ground from about waist level. Unfortunately the back flew off and my roll was ruined, now I use 2 rubber bands to secure it.
Yes it looks super low tech. The 2nd time a roll was partially exposed 'cos it didn't roll up tightly and light got in by the edge. Next time I'm unloading undercover. ![]() Strange you are going from lubitel to holga, 'cos I was playing with the idea of holga to lubitel/seagull. heheh. |

hehe.. back covers flying off is like pretty common... i've resorted to using the velcro method... glue velcro around the cam... to make sure film is tightly wound, i glued a piece of metal at the bottom of the left spool area, thus adding tension to the spool... can use card board also, but i rather resort to a permanent solution... there are apparently ALOT of mods one can do with the holga... and i guess it's its versatility that attracts me, like you can do wadever you like to it.. kekeke.... |

Say nightwolf, have you considered getting like a Movska 5?
I've bought from "cupog" before, and from posts in other forums, it seems for some of the stuff he sells they are CLA'd in advance so will be good working cameras. I found one here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...845440899&rd=1 Alvin |

In Beijing now, just saw an exhibition at the Forbidden City that has James Natchwey, David Doubilet, Annie Liebowitz, etc. There are 2 Holga pictures by David Burnett, noted US campaign photographer, blown up to 4 ft x 4ft (they are not darkroom prints). They are one of the standout pictures of the exhibition.
I don't think you'll be disappointed with a Holga. I even use slide film with them. I use E100VS in bright sunlight, and Provia 400 when there is a bit of shade. |
