    Default 04Sept Sunday: Time Trial l for Photomarathon

    Let do a Time Trial prior to the actual photomarathon.
    Scaled-down of the real thing: 2 themes, 2 hours each
    Will be good for those going for the real event on 10Sept.
    Hence this time trial's priority will be for those who signed up for the actual thing.

    We will have sharing session after the time trial, maybe for dinner. And learn from each other the experience.

    Themes:
    I will bring a dictionary, and randomly flip to a page & point.
    Will reselect word, if selected word is deem “un-executable”

    Submission:
    I will bring my netbook & card reader; to transfer photo you selected for the Theme.
    Submission has to be within the time-frame of each theme.
    You are given only 1minute to filter out the photo u are submitting; if not u will have to re-queue
    Strictly JPEG only, no RAW format..

    Meeting arrangement:
    1pm at Suntec Convention Centre Level 3
    U can spot me in my Blue/White “UCLA” cap.

    Submission Point / Resting Point:
    Suntec Basement McDonald

    Rules:
    No use of Editing Software (Photoshop, GIMP…etc) on PC/Laptop/Tablet.
    Use of Camera built-in editing tools/functions is allowed.

    Failure to submit Photo on time will be disqualify. (that is the whole point of this time trial)

    *I will check on the timestamp & “properties” of the submitted files, when I get home.
    Cheater(s) will be disqualify & the name will be posted in thread.


    This is the important & Fun part (Grins*)
    **Judging / Result Mechanism:

    Photos for the 2 themes u selected for submission will be in my hard disk
    By 05Sept (Mon) 9pm, I will upload the photos & create 2 polls for the 2 themes
    Top 3 Winners of each theme will be decided by poll result.
    Poll will end 08Sept (Thur) 9pm.

    Due to Poll mechanism of the forum, MAX option for poll is 15.
    Hence, MAX number of “Main” Participants is 15
    Prioity for those signed up for Canon Photomarathon & those that are doing this for the 1st time.
    However, I can cater to a “reserve” list of up to 10.
    These 10 will not be part of the poll.

    No signing up for friend(s), individual has to sign up for themselves, due to limited slots.

    Prizes for the top 3 winners of each theme:
    an aura of wellness will appear around u for a few days, & u will have the added confidence to tackle the Canon Photomarathon!!! (u think i have money to sponsor prizes ah???)

    Advisable to bring “prop” to assist in your shoot, also rain gear, hat/cap, and most important is watch or handphone that has “countdown timer”.

    Some things for u guys & gals to ponder...

    1) With the time limit of 3hours for the actual photomarathon.
    How far off from Suntec can u go? u have to make sure u return and submit ur photo within that 3hours.

    2) Then another issue arise from above-mentioned: so that means most of the participants will be clustering within or near city area? so likelihood of ppl taking similar shoot of same thing is very high. How do we overcome this?

    3) Bad weather? during 2010 photomarathon there was Haze, well u can take nice Sun setting photo....
    how about heavy rain, then u have to stay indoor.


    Case Studies:

    1) 2008's photomarathon, there was lot of "product shoots" using light-tent. including one of the winner for the theme "Change", have a Prawn looking at 3 colored shells on a "clothing rack" made of paper clips, deciding which shell to change into.
    Basically those that do product shoot are immune to the weather & have higher chance of getting unique shots since they set up their own miniature scene.
    They would have better time management too.
    Lot of them are well versed with artificial lighting, they might book a hotel room nearby Suntec or they have a mini van, to set up a temporary studio.

    but i think most of us here use natural lighting & do street photography. hence if u don't do Product shoots.
    a couple of week to pick up it up is insufficient

    2) .2010's photomarathon, as i mention about the haze...so there's a lack of ppl outdoor for u to shoot & in mid & long rang, u can't take clear photo of buildings....what will u do?
    For the Theme "Charge", one of the winner ( i think is the 1st if i remember correctly) shot 2 ants fight it out like Sumo wrestlers, using macro len.
    i also saw some one use toy soliders, set them up to "charge" across the road.


    Will touch on the topic of "prop" this wk end.

    He is a nice guy to learn from.

    Prior to the photomarathon, most ppl would be thinking about what kits (lens, tripod, filters....etc) to bring.
    the consideration for "Prop" is usually missed out. some small stuffs might be able to assist we in executing our shoot.

    Examples:

    1) Toy
    This year's Capitaland/National-Geographic photo competition, with theme "Building People".
    one of the finalist took a shot of a lego toy (a man in work attire) against a backdrop of one of Capitaland's buildings.
    in earlier post i mentioned last year's photomarathon, for theme "Charge" someone shot toy soldiers trying to "charge" across a road.

    2) Toilet paper (u can grab from toilet...)
    let take "wind" as a theme...u can grab a few metre of toilet paper.
    grab a frenz as model, wrap the long stretch of toilet paper around his/her neck.
    with long loose ends of the toilet paper, flowing with the wind.
    Like a long scarf~

    Think about prop that are small, light-weight & can lead to multiple interpretations.
