and what it essentially means, if the photo gets into trouble, due to you breaching laws or infringe on rights, even if u dun have the rights to the photo anymore... its not keppel land who gets into trouble. its you

I believe all this negativity about joining contests should be stopped here. Stop warning others about photo rights, etc.

If you want to win, be creative, and submit your photo. If you worry that some one gets the rights of your photo and is able to use your photo, fine please don't enter the competition. However please think that if your photo is just a normal shot that any person with a camera is able to capture, who will want to use your photo to promote their property, brand image, etc? If you worry this and worry that, and discourage others to submit shots for the competition, then I would think you are not able to see the big picture why these rules/regulations/terms & conditions has been set.

My point: Stop discouraging others. Those who submit photos for contests have to read the rules for themselves.

i don't think allenleonhart mentioned his points in a negative manner but just words of concerns
however in general i have to agree with lioneldude that u knowingling give up on ur work's copyright when entering should competition.
Would look forward to the winning entries, but the organizer should have a dedicated site or micro-site in regards to such contest.
I tried to google but lack of info...that is something the organizer overlook & is not good.

The only people who should feel negative are the organisers for putting up such lopsided T&Cs. As much as it's mostly photographers here and not so much event organisers, it is still a vital service that some of us try to feedback to any organisers of how unfair their T&Cs are. We may not make such of a dent but at least we're trying for a better future. It has happened before that a photo contest T&C was changed to a fairer position for participants, so we shouldn't stop trying to educate companies.

People will still submit entries because they don't care about copyright. No amount of us highlighting can or will discourage them. I feel it's good that people continue to highlight copyrighting issues in contests so that others who may have overlooked or were unaware will be able to make informed choices.

It's okay to me that contest participants are mostly looking out for themselves, but some feel there is a greater need to help look out for the greater photographic community. And putting negativity on the latter people will be a bad thing.

This thread should be about the grand opening of Ocean Financial Centre hence I apologise for my off-topic post. If anyone would like to start a new thread about regarding the topic raised I'll join your discussion there. Cheers.

    the point here is simple.
The rules and regulation were set based on the organiser interest without due concern or care to the participants in especially their interest.

For dariusateconsulting to list out all the rules and regulation in such manner probably means he/she doesn't see any wrong with it. I agree.
However, what about the interest of the participants?? It takes planning and effort by the participants to capture a photo and hopefully win it. Doesn't these people deserved credit for the photos they submitted regardless whether it will win? Giving the deserved credit to the participants when their photos were been used is the least they can show in appreciation for the effort.

What allenleonhart did is just merely pointing out something in the rules and regulations that is unfair and disrespectful to the work of the participants. In anywhere did he or we say not to participate?

I do not see anything wrong with it. It is just an act of indemnity to themselves especially when they are the organiser. What I can foresee is the possibility of the participants might trespass private property to get the shot. Just exercise all common sense and obey the law when trying to the shot. :-)

I agree. We have continuously point this out and try to educate.
There is a good example that we did help the organiser to see it from our point of view. While it is not ideal but at least there is a better balanced of interest between the organiser and participants and in fact, Clubsnap has became a co-organiser of the event.

It is their competition, they can set the rules however they want it. A rule like this is simply being self-centered. We can just made an informed choice here by reading the T&C first before even submitting any photos.

let me show you a good example that give proper respect to the work of the participants.

There appears to be some inconsistency in the T&C:

"9) All entries become the property of Keppel Land ... All participants are deemed to have agreed to give Keppel Land a non-exclusive license to use or publish their entries..."

Saying that Keppel Land only gets a non-exclusive license to use the entries suggests / implies that the ownership still remains with the participant. This is inconsistent with saying that the entry is the property of Keppel Land.

I'm only highlighting some important points, which I feel would be helpful to those who are considering to make an informed decision. different competitions cater to different people. its good to know what exactly u are signing up for, before signing up.

read carefully first, before commenting. just because ur emotional about the issue of negativity, doesn't mean it is the case.
