Default Shu Uemura, The Beauty Art Makeup Competition 2004

Took some pictures at this event held at Takashimaya Square. Very poor turnout of photogs. Only met Mpenza and MEC. Stage lighting was good but we had to shoot from the sides as this was a private event. Anyway, here are the pics. More at my gallery.

The lovely Vivien Tan was the host for the show,

Don't think so leh. How about Japanese models? I prefer them.

It's pretty strange for Japanese companies like Shu Uemura to engage caucasians. I thought they're very protective towards their own local models, or anything local to Japan.

To save costs I suppose. The models are already engaged by Taka for the fashion shows over the weekend. There's also at least one Thai model. Also, the contestants (locals) probably are not able to converse with Japanese models if required.

I see. Thanx for clarifying.

This is also a good chance to show that his cosmetics works for all races!

Some corporate info. L'Oreal, the world 's largest skincare and cosmetics group owns Shu Uemura besides Lancome, Kiehl's, Biotherm. Whether this info has any bearing on using 'ang mo' models is anyone's guess.

Thanks for the nice comments folks!
I was using my EF 70-200mm/f2.8L IS lens and shot mostly in ambient light. Like I mentioned earlier, the lighting was excellent so I didn't want to use my flash to screw the colours.
When the contestants came out with their models, I was rather surprised that most of the models were caucasians also. I was wondering why they weren't using mostly asian models instead. But later I realised that they alll almost had the same skin tones so I guessed it didn't really matter.

They had a nice and elaborate reception setup and it was totally obscuring the stage. Furthermore, we weren't allowed in except by invitation only and couldn't even get close except from the sides.
2GB CF??? Nah, 512MB good enough for me liao.
