Default Any news of BG-E2?

Seems to have been some time already since launch, anybody checked whether the BG-E2 is in stall already?

Default My 20D is Now Complete !

Funny you should ask....
Just got mine today.
Here it is, together with the Hand Strap E1... on my 20D...

The 20D feels totally different with the Battery Grip attached. Very solid, stable and substantial.

Au contrar, I'm a true blue Singaporean who believes in shopping on the internet for what he wants.
Ordered mine from B&H end of last week.

About $356 inclusive of 3-day express courier delivery by UPS. Think it is slightly more expensive than the local retail price for this grip but then I don't feel like waiting indefinitely for Canon Singapore to bring it in.

I am not sure about Singapore, but here in Hong Kong, stocks of the BG-E2 started arriving by the dozens last weekend. Along with the 17-85 IS lens. If it's any indication, hopefully you all in Singapore should get it soon along with the lens. No indication of the 10-22 though..

The 17-85mm IS lens is already available here since the launch of the 20D. Only the grip and the 10-22mm lens are not available yet.

Default grip

Hello Tomcat:

Thanks for posting this! Makes the 20D the size of a 1DMK2. I have the grip for my 10D and rarely used it. My main complaint is that it does not hook to an external flash... like the Quantum packs. The 20D battery lasts even longer than in the 10D because of the faster CF write speed. I filled up a 1GB card at MSW preview and the battery bar still read 'full' on my 20D.

So it's primary use is to make the camera heavier ? That grip on the 20D with my 70-200mm f2.8 IS + a flash and I am gunna need an assistant to help me to carry it.

The next accessory that I will purchase will be the 580EX. That flash will improve my photos...the grip will only make tired faster.

I think attaching the grip makes hand holding the camera with flash and/or telelense (70-200 f2.8 for e.g.) more balanced. Try mounting a 580EX on the 20D w/o grip and u will find it quite lope-sided. Or a 70-200 for that matter Another thing is it makes portrait shots much easier...

2 batteries in the grip extend battery life and also the availability of the AA pack...but i still yet to see any reports on battery life using that pack...

Yeah! I am also getting the grip as it balances out better. It feels like a toy when I have it mounted with Bigma! Battery life is already good as mentioned by the others.

I dun like the looks of the grip on 20D. The old grip for 10D looks a lot better and sits more flush with the body. Did Canon designed this last minute as an afterthought?

The new grip does look a bit broader at the base compared to that for the 10D. I supposed that's unavoidable if it was to accomodate the AA battery holder/adapter, an option that many users' been clamoring for Canon to provide. In any case, the grip does made the 20D look a lot like the 1D Mk 2.

I generally find the 20D a little bit too small in size and the grip when attached gives a more balanced feel and weight to me. I take a lot of pics in portrait mode and have always found the extra shutter release on the vertical grip to be a boon on both the 10D and the 20D.

I don't know why some users complain that it does not fit snugly with the camera body but I find that it fits perfectly as good if not better than the grip for the 10D.

The controls on the BG-E2 are shutter release, AE/FE Lock, AF point selector, main dial, input for DC coupler, On/Off switch. And the grip comes with the AA battery compartment for 6 AA-sized batteries.

Ah! I was hoping for the multi-controller as well!

Personally, I don't quite like the design of the multi-controller. I get the strange feeling that the joy-stick knob is somehow missing.
In any case, I don't think there's any point in putting the multi-controller on the grip since the grip is most useful in the vertical position and that's the position that the LCD display is least useful in for viewing purposes.
